Caryeshé Joelyn Mitchell was just 15 months old when she was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, a genetic blood disorder where red blood cells take on an abnormal shape, blocking blood flow and causing painful episodes, fatigue, and serious complications throughout the body.
Originally from The Bahamas, Caryeshé, now 21, navigated those painful crises, hospital visits, and the daily challenges that come with managing a complex condition, but she never let it define her.
Upon transferring to Holtz Children's Hospital, Caryeshé has reached a milestone that once felt out of reach: she has been approved for gene therapy, a life-changing step toward the relief she's long deserved, thanks to the support of Dr. Alvarez and the care team at Holtz Children’s Hospital,
Her journey is far from over, but for the first time, the road ahead looks brighter than ever. 💙
