Tick season is here! 🕷️

Don't let a tick bite ruin your summer adventures. Stay safe by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and checking for ticks after spending time outdoors. If you find a tick attached to your skin, remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers, clean the area with soap and water and monitor for symptoms such as a rash, fever, fatigue or body aches.

Most tick bites are harmless, but some can spread illnesses if left untreated. June is National Men's Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the health challenges men face and encouraging them to take proactive steps toward better health. For men living in rural Oklahoma communities, prioritizing preventive care can be especially important, as access to healthcare services and health outcomes often differ from those in urban areas. INTEGRIS Health Grove Hospital and INTEGRIS Health Miami Hospital are encouraging men of all ages to prioritize their health by scheduling preventive screenings, maintaining healthy habits and staying proactive about their overall well-being.

According to national health data, men are less likely than women to seek preventive healthcare services and are more likely to delay medical care until a condition becomes serious. Rural populations face additional barriers, including longer travel distances to healthcare facilities, limited access to specialty care and higher rates of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

“Men's Health Month serves as an important reminder that preventive care can make a significant difference in overall health and quality of life,” says Christopher Gray, APRN, with INTEGRIS Health Medical Group Grove. “Regular checkups and screenings help identify health concerns early, when treatment is often most effective.”

INTEGRIS Health Miami Hospital has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a rating on how safe hospitals are for their patients. The grade uses 28 measures, including rates of preventable errors, injuries and infections and whether hospitals have systems in place to prevent them.

This achievement highlights INTEGRIS Health Miami Hospital’s ongoing efforts to enhance patient safety through rigorous protocols, staff education and a culture that empowers caregivers to speak up and prevent harm. From infection prevention initiatives to advanced safety checks and continuous quality improvement efforts, the hospital remains dedicated to exceeding national standards and ensuring the highest level of care for the Miami community.
