The Department of Dermatology & Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine continues to earn national and international acclaim in clinical care, research, and education in the field of dermatology. We continue to rank among the largest and best residency programs in the United States and the largest and best full-time faculty of 23 and a very active and unique part-time paid voluntary faculty program as well as voluntary faculty. In Memory of Craig Leonardi, MD 🕊️

The University of Miami Frost Department of Dermatology mourns the passing of Craig Leonardi, MD, a distinguished dermatologist, pioneering clinical investigator, educator, mentor, and cherished friend.

A proud alumnus of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Dr. Leonardi helped revolutionize psoriasis treatment through groundbreaking research, contributing to more than 200 clinical trials and 250 scientific publications. As co-founder and former president of the International Psoriasis Council, his leadership and dedication to advancing dermatology left a lasting impact on patients and physicians worldwide.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, our department recently honored Dr. Leonardi at the Frost Dermatology 70th Anniversary Meeting and established an endowed research fund in his name to support future discoveries in skin research.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Leonardi will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, mentorship, and lifelong commitment to scientific discovery.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Leonardi family. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of dermatologists and researchers.

Congratulations to Helin Karakus, MD, on this incredible and well-deserved recognition! 🎉

Helin has been selected as one of only three U.S. recipients of the 2026 Young Investigator Collegiality Award from the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID).

This award recognizes promising early-career investigators who are making meaningful contributions to dermatologic research while fostering collaboration within the scientific community.

We are especially proud to see Helin recognized for her ongoing research in skin pigmentation and aging. She will also have the opportunity to present her work af the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR) Annual Meeting in Heidelberg, Germany.
