Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a surgical hair restoration technique in which a thin strip of donor tissue is removed from the scalp and microscopically divided into individual follicular units for transplantation.

While FUE receives significant attention, FUT can offer important advantages for appropriately selected patients—including the ability to obtain a substantial number of grafts while preserving other areas of the donor region for potential future procedures.

Technique selection should be based on the patient’s anatomy, hair-loss pattern, goals, and long-term restoration strategy.

There is no universally best harvesting technique. There is an appropriate technique for the right patient.
