Aphasia is a language disorder that can affect a person’s ability to speak, understand, read, or write, often following a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological condition. Recovery looks different for everyone, but meaningful progress is possible with the right support and therapy.
Simple strategies like giving someone extra time to respond, asking yes-or-no questions, offering choices, or encouraging gestures can make a big difference in helping someone with aphasia communicate.
This National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, UHealth is proud to recognize the speech-language pathologists who help patients reconnect, rebuild confidence, and find their voice again. 🧡
