Back-to-school brings more than new pencils — it brings new worries. I often hear parents say, “My child can’t focus,” or “She’s suddenly overwhelmed.” Those behaviors can be ADHD, anxiety, or both. Getting the diagnosis right matters because the treatment does, too.
I approach evaluations like detective work: learning the history, gathering teacher input, and understanding what the brain is actually doing. That way we treat the cause, not just the symptom — whether that means executive-function strategies, psychotherapy, nervous-system regulation, or thoughtful medication when appropriate.
If you’re noticing patterns (late-night worry, hours spent on homework, sudden dread on Sunday evenings), it’s okay to seek help. You don’t have to label your child — our job is to understand them and guide a tailored plan so they can thrive.
