• Where the mind goes, the body follows •
I went scuba diving for the first time in Cozumel last month and was having a hard time staying under the water in the beginning. A simple phrase the instructor said to me was, “where the mind goes, the body follows” as in to set my clear focus to the ocean floor or to where I want to swim too, and my body would follow. But ofcourse as most things those words landed deeper than possibly intended and invoked a deep yet simple meditative thought pattern since then
Where is my mind right now? How is my body following that? 🌀
It is a concept I’ve noticed within my own yoga and movement practice over the years, especially when it comes to attempting more challenging postures. It never seems to be about the capabilities of my body, but the focus of my mind
It is something I like to incorporate into my Pilates classes, when we meet physical challenge, where is the mind? Is there an internal dialogue that is holding you back? Can you bring such a direct focus to what you’re doing that nothing else, even a small thought, exists?
A single pointed focus is the winner. Take back control over your thoughts, limit distractions, ask yourself where you want to go, focus and let the body follow
Some morning coffee thoughts, happy Thursday 🤍
