Your brain needs you to move. Literally.

Inactivity isn't just tiredness or lack of energy—it's a real risk factor for stroke. Without movement, your blood thickens, clots form, and blood flow is blocked.
The risk is unseen.

But it can be prevented.

Start today. One step at a time.

The front of the package is marketing. The back is information.

Here is what to look for before anything goes in your cart:
Check the serving size first — the whole package is usually more than one.

Watch the sodium. High sodium raises blood pressure, which raises stroke risk. Look for 5% Daily Value or less.

Limit added sugars. Less than 10% Daily Value is the target.

Use % Daily Value as your guide: 5% or less is low, 20% or more is high.

That label exists to inform you. Use it.

Less movement means higher risk — and here's exactly why.

Physical inactivity triggers a chain your body didn't ask for: slower blood flow, cholesterol buildup, rising blood pressure, and greater clot risk. That last one? It leads straight to stroke.

The good news: moving more breaks the chain.

It doesn't have to be intense. It just has to be consistent. Start with a walk. Add a stretch. Keep it going.

Your body is built to move. Give it the chance.

The Florida Stroke Registry was proud to participate in the 29th Annual FTFC Gathering of Eagles, the Fire Chiefs Association of Broward County's premier EMS conference.

Our Stroke Care Workshop, co-presented with Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System, brought stroke specialists and first responders together for hands-on training in stroke recognition and management, NIH Stroke Scale certification, stroke mimics identification, large vessel occlusion screening, and hospital destination decision-making.

When EMS providers are equipped with the right knowledge, outcomes improve. Thank you to every first responder who showed up ready to learn.

A grandmother of four. A sudden blurred vision in her left eye. A stroke.
Barbara Fonner's story is a powerful reminder that stroke can happen to anyone — and that knowing the signs can save your life.

Dr. Gillian Gordon Perue, vascular neurologist and Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at the University of Miami Health System (UHealth), says the acronym B.E.F.A.S.T. is what everyone needs to know:

Balance loss. Eye symptoms. Face drooping. Arm weakness. Speech difficulty. Time to call 911.

Because Barbara acted fast, she had surgery to open a blocked carotid artery — and got her vision back. Watch her story at the link in bio.

Today is World No To***co Day 🚭 — and we're closing Stroke Awareness Month with a fact that matters:

Smoking doubles your risk of stroke.

The good news: quitting works. Within 2–5 years of quitting, your stroke risk can drop to that of a non-smoker.

It's never too late. Talk to your doctor about cessation support.

Thank you for spending May with us.

Ni****ne does more damage than most people realize. Smoking and va**ng narrow your arteries, thicken your blood, and raise your blood pressure — three direct pathways to stroke. Quitting to***co is one of Life's Essential 8 for a reason. Protect your brain.
