Melanoma can be serious — but knowing what to look for can make all the difference. 🖤

Remember the ABCDEs of melanoma when checking your skin for suspicious moles or spots:

🔹 A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other half
🔹 B – Border: Edges are irregular, uneven, or blurred
🔹 C – Color: Multiple colors or uneven coloring within the spot
🔹 D – Diameter: Larger than about 6mm (roughly the size of a pencil eraser)
🔹 E – Evolving: Changing in size, shape, color, or symptoms over time

If you notice any of these warning signs, don’t ignore them. Early detection is key when it comes to skin cancer. ☀️

Skin cancer doesn’t always start out looking this large or obvious—which is why regular skin checks matter. Many melanomas begin as small changes that are easy to overlook until they continue to grow, darken, or evolve.

As part of our “a melanoma photo a day” series for Skin Cancer Awareness Month, we’re sharing real examples to help educate, raise awareness, and encourage early detection.

If you notice a spot that is changing, bleeding, itching, or simply looks different from the rest, don’t ignore it. Get it checked.
