Let’s be honest: not many people jump out of bed excited for a dental appointment. 🥱

We get it! Dental anxiety is incredibly real. That’s why from the second you walk through our doors in Middleburg Heights; our entire focus is on changing how you experience the dental chair.

We operate on what we like to call the Golden Rule of Dentistry: We treat you exactly how we would want to be treated ourselves. For us, that means:

A Gentler Approach: Dental care shouldn't have to hurt. We focus heavily on pain therapy and keeping you completely at ease.

Advanced Comfort: You can literally sit back, listen to soothing music, and unwind while we take care of your smile.

Family-First Care: We care for generations of smiles—from your baby’s very first tooth to grandpa's routine checkup.

Whether you are due for a routine cleaning or it’s been a few years since your last visit, there is zero judgment here—just gentle, professional care.

✨ Your smile matters to us. Let's keep it healthy together!

Electric vs. Manual: Which toothbrush takes the crown? 👑🪥

We get asked this question all the time in our chairs! At Dr. Postel’s office, our priority is always helping you find the absolute gentlest, most effective way to keep your smile healthy.

Here is how the battle of the brushes breaks down:

⚡ The Electric Toothbrush (The Overachiever)

The Power: It delivers thousands of micro-movements per minute, doing a lot of the heavy lifting for you to break up stubborn plaque.

The Timer: Most models have a built-in 2-minute timer to ensure you’re actually brushing long enough (the #1 thing most of us skip!).

Great For: Anyone with braces, dexterous challenges like arthritis, or those of us who tend to brush a little too hard.

💪 The Manual Toothbrush (The Trusted Classic)

The Control: It is 100% dependent on your technique. If you have great form, a manual brush can absolutely get the job done!

The Travel Factor: No chargers, no dead batteries, and easy to pack for a quick weekend trip.

The Rule of Thumb: If you stick with manual, always choose SOFT bristles to protect your enamel and stay gentle on your gums.

👉 Dr. Postel’s Take:
While both can give you a clean smile, electric toothbrushes generally make it much easier to clear away plaque without pressing too hard against your teeth.

But remember, the best toothbrush is simply the one you actually enjoy using twice a day!

Ever look at the dental tray and wonder what all those shiny tools actually do? 🦷 Let’s demystify the lineup!

The tools we use during your routine cleaning aren't there to be scary—they each have a very specific, gentle job to keep your smile healthy. Here is your quick guide to the dental tray:

🔍 1. The Mouth Mirror
Our absolute favorite tool. It lets us see those hard-to-reach spots behind your molars, reflects light so we can see clearly, and gently keeps your cheek or tongue out of the way.

Hook 2. The Explorer (The "Sickle")
Despite the tiny hook at the end, this tool doesn't poke! It’s incredibly sensitive, allowing us to gently feel around the surfaces of your teeth to check for hidden soft spots, early decay, or stubborn buildup.

✨ 3. The Scaler
This is the tool that removes plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) that your regular toothbrush just can't budge. It does most of its work right at and just below the gumline to prevent gum disease.

💨 4. The Air/Water Syringe
Think of this as a mini power washer for your mouth. It sprays a gentle stream of water to rinse away debris, and puffs of air to dry off a tooth surface so we can get a perfect, clear look at it.

🪥 5. The Prophy Cup (The Polisher)
The grand finale! This is the electric, spinning rubber cup we use at the very end. Paired with a gritty toothpaste, it polishes away surface stains from coffee or food, leaving your teeth feeling ultra-smooth.

Does eating ice cream or sipping hot coffee make you wince? 🥶🔥 Tooth sensitivity is incredibly common, but you don't just have to live with it.

Sensitive teeth can be caused by things like worn enamel, gum recession, cavities, cracked teeth, teeth grinding, or even brushing too hard. The good news? You don’t have to just live with it.

At Dr. Postel’s office, we can help identify what’s causing your sensitivity and recommend the right solution, whether that’s a special toothpaste, fluoride treatment, gentle dental care, or addressing an underlying issue.

Don’t ignore the zing. Let’s help your smile feel comfortable again.

📞 Schedule your visit today and take the mystery out of sensitive teeth.

When you think of "bad food for your teeth," candy and soda probably top the list. But some of the biggest culprits behind enamel wear might surprise you! 😮

A few surprising examples:

Sparkling Water
It may be sugar-free, but carbonation makes it more acidic than still water. Enjoy it in moderation and rinse with plain water afterward.

Citrus Fruits
Oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and limes are packed with vitamin C, but their acidity can soften enamel over time.

Dried Fruit
Raisins, dried cranberries, and other dried fruits can be sticky and cling to teeth, giving sugar more time to sit on the enamel.

Pickles & Vinegar-Based Foods
That tangy flavor comes from acid, which can contribute to enamel erosion with frequent snacking.

Coffee & Tea
Even without sugar, they can stain teeth. Add sweeteners or flavored creamers, and they can also increase cavity risk.

The good news? You do not have to avoid these foods completely. Drink plenty of water, avoid brushing immediately after acidic foods, and keep up with regular dental visits.

A healthy smile starts with smart everyday habits. Schedule your next visit with Dr. Postel today!

Be honest: Have you ever been so tired that you crawled into bed and skipped brushing your teeth? 🥱 We’ve all been there, but here is why your teeth wish you’d make that quick trip to the sink!

When you sleep, your mouth produces less saliva. Because saliva is your body's natural defense against bacteria, a dry mouth gives sugar and plaque a free pass to cause trouble overnight. Brushing before bed clears out the day's leftovers so your teeth can rest easy, too. ✨

Keep a stash of disposable Wisps or floss picks by your nightstand for emergencies.

Brush right after dinner instead of waiting until you’re half-awake!

Drop a 🙋‍♂️ in the comments if you're committing to the nighttime brush tonight!

Baby teeth matter. A lot more than most people think. 🦷💙

Even though they eventually fall out, cavities in baby teeth can still cause pain, trouble eating, difficulty sleeping, and can even affect how adult teeth come in later.

That’s why early dental visits matter.

At Dr. Postel’s office, we love helping little smiles get started on the right foot. If your child has teeth — especially by age one — it’s a great time for their first visit. And if they’re older and haven’t been in yet? That’s okay too. The sooner we start healthy habits, the better.

No scary lectures.
No judgment.
Just gentle family care focused on keeping kids comfortable and smiling.

Because healthy habits start early. And tiny teeth deserve big care. 😁
