Part 2 of ‘My Pet Peeves as a Therapist. Misconceptions about trauma- “that event wasn’t a big deal!” Trauma doesn’t affect everyone the same way because trauma isn’t just about **what happened**—it’s about how the nervous system experienced it.
Two people can go through the same event and walk away very differently based on past experiences, attachment wounds, genetics, age, support systems, coping skills, and whether they felt trapped, powerless, or alone. Sometimes the event is over… but the body is still acting like it isn’t.
