Ice or heat โ which one should you actually use? โ๏ธ๐ฅ
This is one of the most common questions we get at MyoFit Clinic, and honestly it confuses a lot of people. So here is a simple way to think about it.
Use ice when:
The injury is new. We are talking within the first 48 to 72 hours. If something is swollen, inflamed, or just happened, ice is your friend. It slows down inflammation and numbs the area to help with pain. For best results, apply ice for 20 minutes on and give yourself at least 2 hours off before reapplying.
Use heat when:
The injury is older. If you are dealing with chronic stiffness, tight muscles, or an ache that has been around for a while, heat helps loosen things up and gets blood flowing to the area. Apply heat for 20 to 30 minutes on and wait at least 1 hour before reapplying.
The simple rule:
New injury, sharp pain, or swelling โ reach for ice.
Stiffness, soreness, or chronic pain โ reach for heat.
And if you are not sure which one applies to you, that is exactly what we are here for.
Sometimes what feels like a minor ache is worth getting looked at. We see new patients within one to two days and most major insurances are accepted.
