There’s so much about labor that isn’t talked about until you’re already in it
For example...
💧 Labor rarely starts with your water breaking... in fact only about 10% of women have their water break before labor actually begins... more often, labor starts with contractions that gradually become longer, stronger, and closer together
💃🏽 Movement isn’t just for comfort in labor... walking, swaying, squatting, dancing and changing positions can help baby navigate the pelvis and encourage progress
😰 When we’re scared... our bodies tense up and release stress hormones that can interfere with the flow of oxytocin, the hormone that helps labor along, and make labor feel more intense... which only heightens our fear
🫶🏽 Research shows continuous support in labor can improve outcomes, lower interventions and increase satisfaction with the birth experience overall
🗣️ You have the right to ask questions, understand your options, and be part of the decision-making process throughout your labor and birth... and understand NO is a full sentence
The more you understand before labor begins, the more confident you’ll feel when the big day arrives
Which of these surprised you most? 👇🏽
