When Eric first wanted to donate, he assumed it wasn’t possible. For many LGBTQ+ individuals, blood donation simply wasn’t an option for decades.

After years of advocacy, research, and community voices pushing for change, updated eligibility guidelines established in 2023 opened the door for more people to give safely and inclusively.

Today, Eric donates knowing that because of donors like him, someone else will have a more time with their loved ones.

This Pride Month, we celebrate progress, advocacy, and the growing community of donors helping save lives. 🏳️‍🌈

O-negative blood is known as the universal blood type because it can be given to anyone during emergencies when there’s no time to determine a patient’s blood type. That makes every O-negative donation incredibly important.

Not sure what your blood type is? Come find out! Appointments are needed now to help keep hospital shelves stocked for patients in need ❤️

At the Warwick Donor Center, few donors are as familiar or dedicated as Peter Foss, who is approaching an incredible milestone of 250 platelet donations.

Peter first began donating whole blood decades ago, inspired by his father’s example and a lifelong belief in helping others whenever possible. Over time, he transitioned to platelet donation and quickly came to understand just how vital platelets are for cancer patients, including children undergoing treatment.

His motivation is also deeply personal. Years ago, Peter watched a friend’s son battle leukemia, an experience that left a lasting impact. He has also faced several serious health challenges of his own, experiences that strengthened both his gratitude for life and his commitment to giving back.

For Peter, donation is simply part of who he is. He often encourages others to donate, hoping to ease hesitation and show how meaningful the experience can be. He also values the relationships he has built with the Warwick team over the years, especially the familiar faces who have become part of his routine.

A proud husband and father of two, Peter approaches this milestone with the same humility and generosity that have defined his decades of giving. His story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact one person can make through simple, consistent acts of kindness.

In rural communities, access to blood transfusions before arriving at the hospital can mean the difference between life and death.

Thanks to our partnership with Hartford HealthCare EMS, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, and Dr. Thomas Mezzetti, Northwest Medic 1 and Northwest Medic 3 have carried blood onboard their emergency medical vehicles since June 2023— bringing lifesaving care directly to patients across Litchfield County when every second matters when an emergency occurs.

“Having the ability to administer blood in the prehospital environment ensures that our patients have a greater chance at survival.”

This EMS Week, we’re recognizing the paramedics and EMS teams helping bring critical care to patients faster than ever before. Thank you for your continued partnership!

What do cookies have to do with blood types? 👀 More than you think.

O Negative = the “plain cookie” that works for everyone. And that’s exactly why it’s in such high demand.

Only 7% of people have it, but it can help 100% of patients in emergencies.

Emily’s journey into motherhood is a powerful reminder of how lifesaving blood donation can be. ❤️

After giving birth to her son, Emily needed multiple blood transfusions to survive. Because of selfless blood donors, she was given the chance to recover, hold her baby, and begin her journey as a mother.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the donors who help make stories like Emily’s possible every single day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all who nurture, love, give life, and give blood!💐
