Yesterday, we were honored to participate in a memorial service at Hawthorn Glen Care Community.

A special thank you to Activities Director, Joโ€™Nate, for always including us in these meaningful services. It gives us the opportunity to pay tribute not only to the patients we have cared for, but also to the many individuals we have come to know through our time at Hawthorn Glen.

Recently we had the pleasure of helping Mary enjoy a special day at Carillon Historical Park with her family and members of her hospice care team. From riding the carousel to taking in the sights, her youthful spirit and joy were on full display!

Mary is a wonderful example of what hospice care can look like. Hospice does not always mean being confined to a bed at your home. It can mean continuing to enjoy meaningful experiences, spending time with the people you love, and making new memories together.

Mary is still talking about her special day, and we love knowing those memories continue to bring her so much joy. ๐Ÿ’œ

Through our Wish for a Day program, we help create meaningful experiences for our patients and their families, helping create new and lasting memories. These wishes are made possible through the generous donations we receive and the support of those who participate in our fundraisers.

Thank you to everyone who has made a donation or supported one of our fundraisers! Your generosity helps make special days like this possible.

Congratulations to our Board Member, Verlena Stewart, on being selected as one of this year's 4th of July Parade Grand Marshals! We're proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and all she does for our community. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2026 Fourth of July Co-Grand Marshals

The role of Grand Marshal is one of the highest honors a community can bestow. It recognizes individuals who exemplify service, character, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to making Middletown a stronger place to live, work, and serve.

This year, three individuals were selected whose lives reflect different, yet equally important, parts of Middletown's story. Together, they represent the heart of our community.

Barney Strassburger
For decades, Barney Strassburger has invested in Middletown and its people. Through his business leadership, civic involvement, and steadfast support of countless community initiatives, Barney has helped shape the city we know today. His dedication to economic growth, local organizations, and community development has positively impacted generations of residents.

Barney represents the builders of our communityโ€”those who work quietly behind the scenes, support beloved traditions like the St. John's Festival and Light Up Middletown, and continually create opportunities for others. His legacy is woven into the fabric of Middletown, making him an exceptional choice for Grand Marshal.

Verlena Stewart
Verlena Stewart is widely respected for her servant leadership, compassion, and tireless commitment to helping others. Through her work with the Sonny Hill Community Center and her many volunteer efforts, she has dedicated herself to strengthening neighborhoods, building relationships, and investing in people.

Verlena represents the spirit of service that allows communities to flourish. Her influence extends far beyond the programs she leadsโ€”it is reflected in the countless lives she has encouraged, empowered, and inspired. She exemplifies the values our Independence Day celebration seeks to honor.

Mikey Propps
Mikey Propps has become one of Middletown's most recognizable and beloved community members because of his contagious joy, welcoming spirit, and genuine love for people. As a member of the local Jeep community, a player in the Dream League baseball program, and an active volunteer at Berachah Church, Mikey inspires everyone he meets through kindness, perseverance, and enthusiasm for life.

Mikey reminds us that leadership isn't always defined by titles or accomplishments. Sometimes, it's found in the ability to bring people together, make others feel valued, and inspire joy wherever you go. His life is a beautiful example of inclusion, acceptance, and community pride.

Together, They Tell the Story of Middletown

Each of these individuals has made a meaningful impact on our community in their own unique way.

By naming all three as Co-Grand Marshals, Middletown celebrates multiple generations, diverse forms of leadership, and the shared values that unite us as a city. Together, they embody service, perseverance, compassion, leadership, and community pride.

As America commemorates its 250th Anniversary honoring these three individuals together, it sends a powerful message: a strong community is not built by one type of person, but by people from every walk of life who choose to invest in others.

Together, Barney Strassburger, Verlena Stewart, and Mikey Propps represent the very best of Middletown.

We are honored that all three have accepted the invitation to serve as the 2026 Fourth of July Co-Grand Marshals. As we celebrate America 250, we can think of no better way to honor our community than by having these three outstanding leaders guide this year's Independence Day Parade.

Congratulations, Barney, Verlena, and Mikey! Thank you for making Middletown a better place for us all.

Recently, one of our talented volunteers created these Memory Bears for two granddaughters using clothing that belonged to their grandmother.

Every family we serve is offered one complimentary Memory Bear. Each bear is handmade and often includes special touches that make it unique. Made from clothing items or blankets that hold special memories, these keepsakes can provide comfort and a lasting connection to a loved one.

We are grateful for the volunteers who share their time and talents to create these meaningful keepsakes for the families we serve. ๐Ÿ’œ
