June is Men’s Health Month, a reminder that taking care of your health is not a weakness. It is one of the strongest things you can do for yourself and the people who count on you.

Men are often known for pushing through, waiting it out or saying, “I’m fine.” But regular checkups can help identify health concerns early, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, cancer risk and other conditions that may not show obvious symptoms right away.

Midland Health supports men and families across Greater Midland through primary care, internal medicine, family medicine, wellness resources and access to a network of more than 595 physicians and specialists across the Permian Basin.

This month, encourage the men in your life to schedule the appointment, ask the question and take the next step toward better health.

Midland Health: Leading Healthcare for Greater Midland.

Today, we celebrate Nurse Assistants Day and recognize the compassionate caregivers who help make healing possible.

Nurse assistants are often at the bedside helping patients with the daily tasks that matter most — bathing, dressing, eating, walking, comfort, vital signs and reporting changes in a patient’s condition to the nursing team.

Their work is hands-on, heart-forward and deeply human.

At Midland Health, nurse assistants help support safe, compassionate care for our patients and families every day. Their presence brings comfort, dignity and connection during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

Thank you to our nurse assistants for the care you give, the details you notice and the difference you make.

June is Aphasia Awareness Month — a time to better understand a condition that affects more than 2 million people in the U.S.

Aphasia is a language disorder that can make it difficult to speak, understand, read or write. It often happens after a stroke or brain injury, but here’s something important to remember: aphasia does not affect a person’s intelligence.

Helpful ways to support someone with aphasia:
• Give them time to respond
• Reduce background noise
• Use gestures, writing or pictures
• Ask yes/no or choice-based questions
• Do not finish their sentences unless they ask for help

Communication may look different, but connection is still possible. This month, Midland Health’s CAPE department is partnering with the West Texas Aphasia Center to share awareness, strategies and support for staff providing excellent patient care.

👏 BRAVO Spotlight: Edna Barrera 👏

Please join us in celebrating Edna Barrera, LVN, with Diagnostic Imaging Associates at Midland Health’s Medical Building, for her outstanding commitment to patient care and teamwork.

Edna has received not one, but two BRAVO recognitions from both colleagues and patients who wanted to recognize her positive attitude, willingness to help others, and dedication to creating a supportive environment for everyone around her.

Healthcare is a team effort, and every interaction matters. Whether it’s offering reassurance before a scan, assisting a coworker, or simply greeting someone with a smile, team members like Edna help create a positive experience throughout a patient’s care journey.

We are grateful for the compassion, professionalism, and teamwork she brings to Midland Health each day.

Pictured with Edna are Karen Orozco, Manager of Imaging Operations, and Wes Barnt, Vice President of Ancillary Services, who joined in celebrating her well-deserved recognition.

Thank you, Edna, for being exceptional every day and for making a difference in the lives of our patients and your fellow team members. 💙
