We're continuing our Crucial C series with the fourth C: Capable. The Adlerian Crucial C of Capable is about helping children develop confidence in their own abilities. Rather than doing things for children, we can empower them by believing in what they're able to do and giving them opportunities to practice. When children are trusted with responsibility and supported through challenges, they begin to believe in their own competence. Over time, these small experiences build confidence, resilience, and independence.
Here are a few simple ways to nurture the Crucial C of Capable:
- Let children do for themselves what they are able to do.
- Set age-appropriate expectations for responsibilities, chores, and daily life skills.
- Create opportunities for success by encouraging activities that match their developmental level while gently stretching their abilities.
