Our hearts and thoughts are with the Midland and Odessa communities as we process the devastating tragedy that occurred yesterday morning.

We know that many individuals, families, friends, coworkers, students, and first responders have been deeply affected by these events. In times like these, feelings of shock, sadness, fear, anger, confusion, and grief are natural responses to an unimaginable situation.

To the first responders from Midland and Odessa, thank you. We know you take an oath to protect and serve our communities, and we want you to know how deeply appreciated you are. When tragedies like this occur, your jobs become even more difficult, yet you continue to show up with courage, strength, and dedication. We are grateful for your service and sacrifice.

As summer begins, many people feel a shift longer days, more sunshine, vacations, and a sense of renewal. For some, this season brings energy, motivation, and joy. But for others, summer can also stir up feelings of anxiety, loneliness, overwhelm, or even sadness.

The truth is: seasonal changes affect us all differently.

Sometimes anxiety doesn’t look like panic attacks.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Overthinking every conversation
• Feeling irritated or easily overwhelmed
• Having trouble relaxing even when you’re exhausted
• Constantly preparing for the “what if”
• Looking completely fine on the outside while struggling internally

High-functioning depression is real, even when someone appears “fine” on the outside. A person may still go to work, take care of family, meet deadlines, smile, and stay productive while privately struggling with emotional exhaustion, hopelessness, or numbness.

What it can look like:

Constantly feeling tired, even after resting
Losing interest in things once enjoyed
Overworking or staying busy to avoid emotions
Smiling publicly but feeling empty privately
Irritability, frustration, or emotional numbness
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Withdrawing emotionally from others
Changes in sleep or appetite
Feeling like you’re “just getting through the day”
Being highly dependable for everyone else while neglecting yourself

Many people dismiss their symptoms because they’re still functioning, but emotional pain does not have to be visible to be valid. Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

So many people are silently struggling while trying to convince themselves they’re “just tired” or that they should be able to handle it alone.

You are not weak for struggling. You are human.

Your mind and body will always try to tell you when something needs attention.
Mental health matters just as much as physical health.
