When someone dies by su***de, grief can feel different.

Families may struggle with questions that don't have easy answers. Children may feel confused, isolated, or worry that no one understands what they're experiencing. Caregivers are often grieving themselves while trying to support their children.

That's why we created Holding Hope.

Holding Hope is a six-week peer support program where children, teens, and caregivers can connect with others who have experienced a similar loss in a safe, compassionate environment. There is no expectation to "have it all together." You can share, listen, create, or simply be present.

Healing doesn't mean forgetting. It means learning to carry your grief with the support of others.

💚 Registration is now open.
💚 Mondays | August 31 – October 5
💚 6:00–7:00 PM
💚 Ages 4–18 with a concurrent parent/guardian group
💚 Free to attend

If you know someone whose family has been impacted by su***de loss, consider sharing this post. Sometimes knowing there is a place to turn is the hardest part.

📚 Book Recommendation: My Big, Dumb, Invisible Dragon 🐉

Big feelings after a loss can be hard to explain—especially for children. My Big, Dumb, Invisible Dragon by Angie Lucas gives those feelings a shape, helping young readers understand that grief can feel heavy, confusing, and always close by.

Through gentle storytelling and engaging illustrations, this book reminds children that whatever they're grieving—a death, divorce, a move, illness, or another significant life change—they're not alone. Healing doesn't happen all at once, and every emotion they experience along the way is valid.

This is a thoughtful resource for families, caregivers, educators, and anyone supporting a child through loss. Sometimes the right story can help start the conversations that feel hardest to have. ❤️

Have you read this book or have another favorite children's book about grief? Share it in the comments—we'd love to hear your recommendations.

💚 Introducing Holding Hope. 💚

Rays of Hope Children's Grief Centre is proud to launch Holding Hope, a new peer support program created specifically for children, teens, and families who have experienced the death of a loved one by su***de.

Su***de loss can bring grief that feels isolating and difficult to navigate. Holding Hope offers a compassionate, understanding community where families can connect with others who share similar experiences, express their grief in healthy ways, and discover that healing doesn't have to happen alone.

Over six weeks, participants will experience age-appropriate peer support, creative activities, and guidance from trained facilitators in a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Program Details:
💚 Mondays | August 31 – October 5
💚 6:00–7:00 PM
💚 Ages 4–18, with a concurrent parent/guardian group
💚 Free to attend | Registration required
