We’re honored to recognize the mission behind Tasha’s Second Chance and the incredible dog who inspired it all.

Tasha’s Second Chance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial assistance for animals facing life-threatening but highly treatable illnesses. We help when families are unable to afford emergency veterinary care, as well as when abandoned or relinquished pets are taken into someone’s care and desperately need treatment.

Our organization was created in honor of Natasha “Tasha,” a German Shepherd whose life was truly a story of second chances.

Tasha was rescued as a puppy while battling a severe case of parvo. After extensive hospitalization and months of treatment, she beat the odds. But her story didn’t end with her own recovery. For five years, Tasha became a blood donor, helping save the lives of dogs in crisis.

Tragically, Tasha passed away suddenly after making one final blood donation, a donation that saved the life of an abandoned dog. Her impact went far beyond the patients who received her blood. Tasha brought comfort, companionship, and emotional support to so many within the veterinary community. Tasha was given a second chance, and she spent her life giving that same chance to others.

Today, her legacy continues through every animal Tasha’s Second Chance is able to help. We celebrate Tasha, the pets whose lives have been changed in her name, and everyone who helps us continue our mission.

Giving pets a second chance when they need it most. If you would like to help Tasha's mission of giving pets a second chance as she had, you can donate to help the next pet in need!

Long weekend. Everybody's outside. Your regular vet is closed Monday.

We aren't. We never are.

Fully staffed all weekend and through Labor Day, same as every other day of the year. Walk in, no appointment, any hour.

Watch for this weekend: corn cobs, skewers, rib bones, heat exhaustion, lake water, and the pool nobody's watching.

Have a good one and if you need us, we're here.

🐾 Meet Our Employee Pets! 🐾

Meet Plo (full name: Jedi Master Plo Koon)! 💙✨
🐱 Age: 2 years
🐾 Breed: Domestic Shorthair/Siamese Mix

✨ Quirks:
Yep… another three-legged cat! 😂
- Never goes to bed without his favorite stuffed chicken leg toy.
- A certified kleptomaniac who steals the dish sponge every chance he gets, so it has to stay hidden. 🧽😹
- Insists on sleeping on silk pillowcases like the royalty he believes he is.
- He’s basically part Labrador; he follows his humans everywhere, constantly chats with us, and is always ready to play or soak up attention.

Plo may only have three legs, but he has enough personality to make up for it and then some! ❤️

We meet dogs at 3AM. Scared, hurting, confused about why they're here. And they still lean into a stranger's hands. They still thump a tail against the table when someone says their name.

We don't get to meet them at their best. We get to meet them at their bravest.

If your pet ate something they shouldn't have, don't spend twenty minutes searching online. Call us and start driving.

Have these ready when you call:

- What it was (bring the packaging or bottle)
- How much, as best you can estimate
- How long ago
- Your pet's weight

You can also call Pet Poison Helpline directly at (855) 764-7661. They're available 24/7, and in some cases we'll recommend it ourselves!

Common August offenders: grapes and raisins, xylitol gum, THC edibles, ibuprofen, rat bait, fertilizer, and the smoked meat someone dropped at the cookout.

No judgment, ever. Especially about edibles, we need to know so we can treat correctly, and that's the only reason we ask.
Open 24/7. (214) 817-1880

It's the hour when the wretching doesn't stop. When she can't get comfortable. When you're standing in the kitchen in the dark googling whether it can wait until morning.

It doesn't have to wait. We're staffed and open right now and at 4AM, and on Christmas, and every hour and holiday in between. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. No appointment, no call ahead required.

If you're reading this at a strange hour and something feels wrong, come in.

Meet Ozzy. 🧡

He came to us after three days of vomiting that wouldn't let up. Radiographs told the story quickly, there was something in his stomach that had no business being there.

Dr. Pearce elected to go after it with endoscopy rather than surgery. No incision, no opening him up. A scope down, a piece of cloth out, and Ozzy handled the whole thing like a champ.

He went home the same evening.

Three days of vomiting is worth a look. Sometimes it's a bug. Sometimes it's a sock.

We're open 24/7, 365 - including the days it turns out to be the sock.

🐾 Meet Our Employee Pets! 🐾

Say hello to Oliver! 🧡

🐱 Age: 6 years
🐾 Breed: Domestic Shorthair (DSH)

✨ Quirks:

- Another proud member of the three-legged club—and it certainly doesn’t slow him down!
- He’s way too smart for his own good and seems to have claimed all the brain cells between the three cats. 😂
- Completely obsessed with butt scratches and will gently (or not so gently) remind you with little nibbles until you give him the attention he deserves.
- His favorite place to relax is his balcony cat perch, where he can keep an eye on everything.
- Houseplants? Not a chance. Oliver makes it his personal mission to uproot every real plant he can find. 🌱😹

It's toxic, and it works fast. Dogs get it from swimming and from licking their coat afterward.

Signs of exposure: vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, weakness, seizures, collapse (sometimes within an hour).

If the water looks off, keep them out of it. If they swam and then got sick, this is an emergency, not a wait and see.
