Waiting for scan results can be one of the most stressful parts of cancer care.

That feeling has a name: scanxiety.

In this episode of VCI Health Brief, we talk about why the wait can feel so difficult and share a few practical ways to make it more manageable — from knowing when to expect results, to stepping away from the patient portal, staying connected to your normal routine, and speaking with your care team when anxiety starts affecting everyday life.

You may not be able to take away all the worry, but you don’t have to manage it alone.

Virginia Cancer Institute is proud to be a participating site for the Daraxonrasib Expanded Access Program, helping bring an investigational treatment opportunity closer to home for eligible patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer in greater Richmond.

Expanded access programs may allow eligible patients with limited treatment options to receive investigational therapies under careful physician oversight while remaining close to family and local support systems.

VCI remains committed to advancing community-based oncology care and connecting patients with emerging treatment opportunities. Eligibility is based on program requirements and physician evaluation.

At Virginia Cancer Institute, we’re bringing tomorrow’s cancer breakthroughs to patients today—right here in our community.

Through our clinical trials program, patients gain access to cutting-edge treatments close to home. One powerful example is our participation in the ATOMIC study, which helped establish a new standard of care for stage III colon cancer.

The results were remarkable—adding immunotherapy reduced the risk of recurrence or death by 50% compared to chemotherapy alone.

We’re proud to play a leading role in advancing cancer care across the Greater Richmond area, ensuring patients have access to innovative, life-changing treatments without leaving their community.

This is the power of research—delivered locally, compassionately, and with excellence.
