Thank you to the brave men and women of Chesterfield County Fire and EMS for keeping our community safe! Please take note of these safety tips before heading out on the water.

With another extremely hot day on the way today, we have an important reminder for you. Whether it’s at the river or in a swimming pool, if you go in the water to cool off, please make sure you follow these important safety tips:

🏊‍♀️ Never go swimming alone.

🦺 Children, inexperienced swimmers, and anyone on a boat should wear Coast Guard approved life jackets.

☀️ Stay within an arm’s length of children or inexperienced swimmers while in the water.

🌊 Avoid swimming in unfamiliar areas. And make sure you are aware of water conditions before getting in.

📱 Have a cell phone nearby in case of an emergency

❤️ Learn skills that can save a life, like CPR, which can help someone when seconds count in emergency.

There's been six drownings in Chesterfield so far this year, including three in July, so please keep these important safety tips in mind before you go out for a swim.
