Happy World Breastfeeding Week 🤍
This week, we celebrate all the mothers who have breastfed their babies, no matter what their journeys have looked like.
World Breastfeeding Week is a global campaign celebrated in more than 120 countries. Its mission is to raise awareness about the incredible benefits of breastfeeding and to promote environments that help women nurse successfully. This includes support in the workplace, access to skilled lactation support, and policies that protect and empower breastfeeding families.
As a family chiropractor, I regularly hear stories of how mothers felt unsupported when it came to their breastfeeding journey, whether that be in the hospital, at home, or in the workplace. My goal is always to support the mother-baby dyad by helping families have the best possible breastfeeding experience, and advocating for my patients as often as I can. This mission is also deeply personal to me because I know firsthand that nursing is truly a labor of love, and how much easier the journey is when you feel well supported.
Breastfeeding is one of the most well-studied ways to support the health of both babies and mothers. Breastmilk is a LIVING substance that contains antibodies and nutrients that protect a growing baby. It changes over time and can adapt to a baby’s developmental needs and illnesses, providing personalized immune support. God’s perfect design! Breastfeeding helps reduce the risk of SIDS, obesity, and certain chronic diseases. For mothers, breastfeeding promotes postpartum healing and is linked to a lower lifetime risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
I’m SO incredibly grateful for the two and a half years I was able to nurse my son, and I’m so thankful that I have the privilege of supporting mothers and babies on their own nursing journeys. 🤍
