In July, we bring you Freedom Fridays. Each Friday, we will highlight historic & recent freedom to fight the stigma of HIV! For the last Freedom Fact of the month, we bring you some newer, exciting news for Pennsylvania on July 20, 2026. Governor Josh Shapiro signed a bill to eliminate felony enhancement for people who have HIV but failed to disclose their status while engaging in prostitution. Prostitution is generally a misdemeanor in the state of Pennsylvania, so the Pennsylvania lawmakers agreed that an HIV diagnosis alone shouldn't make someone a felon. This week, we highlight section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which helps guarantee that, regardless of race, color, national origin, s*x, age, or disability, federally funded health programs can not discriminate to provide services. In July, we bring you Freedom Fridays. Each Friday, we will highlight historic & recent freedom to fight the stigma of HIV! The 1973 Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act made discrimination illegal for any program that receives federal funding. This included schools, workplaces, hospitals, and any other federally funded agencies. Including these services was needed due to discrimination happening in those areas. Examples such as Ryan White, the child who had to fight for his right to attend school, just because people were not properly educated about the spread and transmission ways of HIV. This law ensured that people living with HIV were guaranteed they could not be turned away from these helpful programs. For more information about this topic, go to the link below.
