The first part of the get up is the most important in my opinion. This first segment should be thought of as a roll, not as a sit up.
The first drill is a push pull utilizing contralateral (opposite) leg and arm. On the way up you utilize a pull with the arm and a push with the leg. On the way down, you push with the arm and pull with the leg.
The second drill is if you utilize the start position which can often help to understand the concept of rolling.
Either way, the goal is to be able to get off of your back easily, which rolling helps to do so with less effort.
