Bay Area Memorial Day observances include ceremonies, parades and community gatherings, plus summer kickoff events like Carnaval San Francisco and BottleRock Napa Valley.

Historical Note: Dave Chetcuti's funeral was the largest known via Chapel of the Highlands. Media coverage was extensive. The Funeral Mass was at Saint Dunstan's. Rain was pouring that day as dozens of uniformed officers from all over California stood at attention outside the packed church. Following the church service I drove the funeral coach with Fr. Cavanagh from the church to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma. The CHP had El Camino Real closed to traffic other than the funeral procession. In addition to our Chapel of the Highlands vehicles, we had arranged for limos from other funeral homes to participate and carry the extended family behind the hearse. Dozens of police motorcycles and CHP vehicles led the procession along with hundreds of cars following behind. The timing was shortly after the death of Princess Diana, and those who had watched her televised procession copied what they saw by lining along El Camino Real and throwing flowers at the hearse as it passed. By the time we arrived at Holy Cross in Colma we were told cars were still leaving the church in Millbrae. This is still the largest funeral seen also by Holy Cross. Since that day we've served the Chetcuti family over and over for their loved ones who've passed, and again offer our sincere condolences. From MHS 1st VP Paul Larson.

Our Chapel of the Highlands crew celebrating Saint Patrick's day with the Millbrae Lions Club. The Lions created a delicious Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner on March 18, 2026 at Saint Dunstan's Parish Center. Thanks to all who helped put this event together and all who attended, from Paul Larson.
