Please join us at Tyte Gallery for the public opening reception of Julia Whitney Barnes: Cyanopaintings and the Botanical World on Saturday, October 3, from 5:00-7:00 PM.

This upcoming exhibition presents lush, intricately layered botanical paintings inspired by the 19th-century cyanotype photographic process. Beginning with unique cyanotype prints on watercolor paper, Hudson Valley-based artist Julia Whitney Barnes builds her compositions with layers of watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and ink, often incorporating plant species gathered from her own garden. The resulting works honor the floral tradition while offering a distinctly contemporary interpretation.

Curated by Wayne Lempka, an art historian, curator, and museum professional whose career includes more than 200 exhibitions, the exhibition will remain on view through Sunday, November 22, 2026.
