IT Band cupping

The Iliotibial tract (IT band) is a thick band of fascia that starts at the hip (ilium) near the glutes and travels down to the lower leg (tibia). Its main functions are pelvic stabilization and posture control. It is an important structure involved in lower extremity motion.

The IT band can refer pain in different ways from the outer hip to the knee. Due to the nature of its composition, it can become overly tight/compressed. Because it is made primarily of collagen, a strong structural protein found in connective tissues, it is not easily stretched.

I have found the best way to treat the IT band is with cupping combined with massage. Cupping produces suction that lifts the layers of tissue and creates space in the area. It brings blood flow and healing cells to the area. This can reduce pain and inflammation, and allows for a more gentle release of the fascia and surrounding muscles.
