Today our team wore red in honor of ALS Awareness Month. ❤️

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a devastating disease that causes a person’s brain to lose connection with their muscles — slowly taking away the ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe.

While there is still no cure, continued research and new treatments are helping to slow progression and improve quality of life for those battling ALS.

Today, we stand with the patients, families, friends, and communities affected by ALS. We wrap our arms around those facing this fight and remain committed to raising awareness, showing support, and spreading compassion however we can.

Phil presented “Beyond the Scoreboard: Athlete Profiling and Utilization of Data to Drive Elite Performance,” to our local community of Athletic Trainers & Physical Therapists, highlighting how performance data and athlete profiling can be used to not only keep athletes healthy, but help them perform at their highest level — both now and for the long run.

As we close out Nurses week, we would be remiss not to recognize the exceptional care our nurses provide to patients each and every day. From preparing and clearing patients for surgery, assisting in the operating room, coordinating care pre-and post-operatively, and supporting patients through follow-up visits in the office, their compassion, skill, and dedication make all the difference.

At POA, we believe in empowering our team to grow, learn, and pursue their passions, even when that journey leads them to the next chapter of their education and careers.

We're incredibly proud to celebrate several of our Orthopaedic Assistants who are continuing on to earn their Master’s degrees in Physician Assistant Studies, while one of our POA Physical Therapy technicians is heading to Occupational Therapy school and another to Physical Therapy school.

While we will miss seeing them in their current roles, we are honored to have been part of their journey and excited to see the impact they will continue to make in the communities they serve.

Congratulations on this next adventure! Your POA family is cheering you on every step of the way. And remember, you will always have a home here with !

is GROWING! We are excited to announce the addition of Dr. Michal Klek, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Total Joint Specialist, starting next week! Dr. Klek specializes in total joint reconstruction including: Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted direct anterior hip replacement, partial knee replacement, kinematically aligned total knee replacement as well as complex revisions of failed hip and knee replacements.

Dr. Klek will be anchored primarily in POA’s Sussex County offices, located in Millsboro and Seaford, as well as operating at TidalHealth Nanticoke, TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, and POA Surgery Center, the latter two both located in Salisbury, Maryland.

Dr. Klek and our patients have the benefit of utilizing Mako Robotics for total joint replacement at two convenient locations: TidalHealth Nanticoke as well as at POA Surgery Center.
