Help on Hooves Providing occupational therapy services, specializing in the use of hippotherapy as a treatment tool. We also believe in the power of nature!

At Help on Hooves, we specialize in providing evidenced based occupational therapy services which may include the use of hippotherapy as a treatment strategy. By utilizing the affordances of the equine and non-clinical environment, we are able to submerse our clients in the ultimate sensory experience to assist them in reaching their goals!

💚 A QUICK UPDATE FROM HELP ON HOOVES💚

We finally have enough internet to share a quick update! First and foremost, ALL of our family AND animals are safe and doing just fine! 🙌 Praise the Lord! We are beyond thankful for that.

Unfortunately, our property sustained significant damage. Pine trees snapped in half, massive oaks toppled over with their roots pulled right out of the ground, roads and driveways blocked, debris EVERYWHERE, and our horse pasture fence is destroyed. 💔

Help on Hooves has sustained damage beyond recovery in its current state, and we will not be able to hold therapy sessions for the time being. We will be reaching out to our current families as soon as we can. If you’re a new family interested in services, we are still happy to take your information and add you to our waiting list.

Right now, we’re not entirely sure what the next steps will look like, but the cleanup has already begun. We have a LOT of work ahead of us, and there are still plenty of unknowns. But one thing we want you to know is this:

WE ARE NOT CLOSING SHOP. WE WILL BE BACK!!🐴💚

It may take some time, and we ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unexpected chapter. We are taking things one day at a time and will share updates as we know more.

Most importantly, please keep everyone impacted by Hurricane Isaias in your prayers. We feel incredibly blessed and grateful that our family and animals are safe, and our hearts are with those who may not have been as fortunate. ❤️

Thank you for being part of the Help on Hooves family. Your support means more than you know, and we look forward to the day we can welcome everyone back to the farm.

🌟 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MS. BAMBI! 🌟

If you’ve been to Help on Hooves, chances are you already know Ms. Bambi! 🐴💚 And if you don’t know her yet… well, you’re missing out! 😉

Ms. Bambi works for the Sheriff’s Department 👮‍♀️ and somehow still finds time to spend her “free time” volunteering at Help on Hooves. (We’re starting to think she just doesn’t believe in having free time 😂.)

When she’s not helping us, you can find her enjoying the great outdoors 🌿, watching football 🏈, and spending time with her family. ❤️

But what really makes Ms. Bambi special is that she truly has a servant’s heart. 💚

She shows up ready to help and gives her time and energy simply because she cares about people. She has a genuine heart for serving others, and it shines through in everything she does.

When asked why she volunteers, she said:
💬 “I enjoy volunteering at Help on Hooves because it gives me an opportunity to serve others in a way that feels meaningful to my heart. Having grown up around horses, being able to reconnect with them while giving back is incredibly rewarding. It's about the people, the connections, the smiles, and being part of something that makes a difference in someone's life. Sometimes the most rewarding part of volunteering isn't what we do for others, but who we become through serving them.” 💚

And we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. 🥹

Ms. Bambi is the kind of volunteer who jumps in wherever she’s needed, brings a smile to every session, and makes our little corner of the farm a better place just by being here.

She’s become such an important part of our Help on Hooves family, and we are SO incredibly grateful for her!

🐴💚 Thank you, Ms. Bambi, for your time, your heart, your hard work, and for being one of the absolute best members of our Helping Herd!

Everyone needs a Ms. Bambi… but we’re pretty lucky that she’s ours! 🥰

🦁🐸 OT Activity Spotlight: Viewtainer Zoo Rescue! 🐭🐧

Who says hand strengthening has to be boring?! 🙌

This simple little Viewtainer activity packs in SO many OT skills! 💪✨

🐾 Hand strength: Kids use a functional opposing “C” grasp to squeeze the container open. Bigger containers = more force required, making it easy to grade the challenge up or down!

🤲 Bilateral coordination: One hand squeezes and stabilizes while the opposite hand reaches in to retrieve and place the items.

✋ Functional grasp: The squeezing motion encourages an opposing “C” grasp and works those little hand muscles.

🧠 Motor planning: Having trouble figuring out how to squeeze it open? Add stickers to the sides as visual cues for where to place their fingers!👆

🎯 Fine motor skills: Use pom-poms for a simple version or make it an adventure…

🚨🦓 “Oh no! The zoo animals escaped!”

Have your little one rescue all the animals and put them safely back in their “zoo”! 🦒🐘🐊

💡 But why a “C” grasp?

That hand position isn't just for this activity! It helps build the foundation for functional tasks kids use every day, such as opening a round doorknob 🚪, grasping a cup to drink 🥤, holding a shampoo bottle 🧴, and opening and closing different containers.

The goal is to make those everyday hand skills stronger and more efficient! 💪

And one of my favorite things about this activity?

Viewtainers come in different sizes, so you can easily grade the activity for different ages and abilities. 👏

🐴✨ ELLIE FUN FACTS! ✨🐴

If Ellie had a personal motto, it would definitely be:
“Work hard. Nap harder.” 😂💤

After a busy day of helping our kiddos, Ellie’s favorite post-session activity is SNACKS… followed immediately by a well-earned nap. 🥕😴 Honestly, we can all relate.

And here’s another fun fact! 👀🐴

Ellie has a dorsal stripe down her back and a little beauty mark on her hindquarters, which makes it super easy to tell her apart from Dolly!

Just like people can have unique birthmarks, freckles, or other identifying features, horses have unique markings too!These markings are one of the ways we can tell our therapy horses apart. 🩵

So if you see a horse enjoying a snack and looking like she’s ready for a nap… there’s a pretty good chance it’s Ellie. 😂
