🧠🐴 “Neurons that fire together wire together!”

So what does that mean in OT incorporating hippotherapy? 🤔

Every single step the horse takes gives the brain and body a chance to work together at the SAME time! ✨

While riding, kiddos are processing:
👀 visual input
⚖️ balance + vestibular input
💪 proprioceptive input
🖐 bilateral coordination
🧩 motor planning
💚 emotional regulation

AND they’re doing it all while having fun and building connection with their horse! 🐴

The horse’s rhythmic movement provides repetitive, organized sensory input that helps the brain build stronger neural pathways over time. The more those systems activate together successfully, the stronger and more efficient those brain connections become! 🌟

That’s the beauty of OT incorporating hippotherapy… meaningful movement + sensory integration + connection = powerful opportunities for neuroplasticity 💫

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms, grandmas, bonus moms, and caregivers!🌸💐

Thank you for every early morning, every encouraging word, every appointment, every cheer from the sidelines, and every ounce of love you pour into your kiddos each and every day. 💕

We are so grateful to walk alongside such strong, compassionate, and devoted families. Your support helps your children grow in confidence, strength, and joy — both on and off the horse 🐴✨

Today we celebrate YOU! We hope your day is filled with love, laughter, and maybe even a little horse hair 🤪💖

🐔🥚 News from the barnyard crew at Help On Hooves! Our chickens officially started laying eggs! 🎉

Fresh farm eggs will be available next week while supplies last 🥚✨ Proceeds will go towards buying a couple new therapy pads for our amazing riders 🐴💙

So basically… the chickens are now part of the therapy team 😂🐓

Our rainy day supervisor, Bonnie 🐱🤎, decided that after 3 therapy sessions this morning it was officially time for a break 😂 Meanwhile, Ellie finally got her mane all re-braided while Bonnie supervised from the hay bale like the barn manager she believes she is 👑🐴

We were extra thankful for a rain-free therapy morning, cool cloud cover, and a dust-free arena ✨ Definitely one of those perfect mornings at the barn!

“Horses wearing ear RINGS?!” 😂🐴 Not today! Ellie got a little help removing her colorful accessories during OT at Help on Hooves 💖🌈

This fun reaching activity worked on:
✨ Reaching outside the riders base of support
✨ Crossing midline
✨ Visual perceptual skills through matching
✨ Bilateral coordination
✨ Postural control and balance

Crossing midline is such an important foundational skill because it supports things like reading, handwriting, dressing skills, and coordinated movement patterns needed for everyday tasks 🧠✍️

Safe to say Ellie prefers braids over earrings anyway 💁🏼‍♀️🐴💕

Working hard or hardly working? 🤔🐴✨

That’s the beauty of OT incorporating hippotherapy 💫

At Help on Hooves, “work” doesn’t always look like work—and that’s exactly the point 😉

While kids are riding, playing games, grooming, or reaching for toys, they’re actually building core strength, coordination, balance, motor planning, and regulation… all at the same time 🙌

The best part? Most of our kids don’t even realize how hard they’re working🎯💛

And when therapy feels fun and meaningful, we see something amazing happen—kids are more willing to try, engage, and stick with tasks they may have previously avoided 💪✨

That natural motivation + the movement of the horse = powerful progress 🐎💙

🔨🐴 We’ve been hard at work at Help on Hooves! ☀️🌦️

We added some much-needed shade and rain cover for both horses and humans 🙌

Our horses now have extra shelter to stay cooler, drier, and more comfortable between sessions… and we added a covered grooming area so our favorite kiddos can give them all the brushing, loving, and attention they deserve 💙🪮🐴

Little by little we’re making this space even better for our therapy families, volunteers, and four-legged coworkers! ✨
