When Black families were turned away from hospitals because of the color of their skin, nurse Clara Frye refused to accept it. She opened her home to care for the sick and injured, using her dining room as an operating room. What started in her house grew into a hospital that served Tampa’s Black community for decades. Her story reminds us that when systems failed our people, our communities built their own solutions rooted in care, dignity, and love

Planning to Take Your Placenta Home?

If you are interested in placenta encapsulation, please contact us before delivery so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Once your placenta is released, we will coordinate pickup as soon as possible. Your placenta may remain in the care and sight of the birthing person or a trusted member of their support team (partner, family member, etc.) until we are able to retrieve it.

For safety reasons, we cannot accept placentas that have been handled by individuals outside of your support system or where we cannot verify proper storage and handling practices.

Please note that we are unable to encapsulate placentas if the birthing person has certain active sexually transmitted infections (STIs/STDs). We will discuss eligibility and any health considerations during your consultation.

At Rooted in Birth, we recognize that our ancestors walk with us every day.

During our Libation Ceremony, led by Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde, we will take a moment to honor those who came before us and helped shape our families and communities.

We invite attendees to bring a photo of a loved one who has transitioned. A mother, father, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or any cherished family member, to place on our Ancestor Honor Table. Together, we will remember their lives, celebrate their legacy, and acknowledge the foundation they laid for future generations.

A special thank you to Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde for leading this meaningful ceremony and helping us create a space for reflection, remembrance, and community healing.
