Veteran Sanctuary Alternative Healing for Veterans and their families with Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

05/26/2026

Today we honor the veterans who gave their lives in war.
And we also hold space for the veterans who carried invisible battles long after service ended.

At Veteran Sanctuary, we have seen how war can live inside the body, the mind, and the spirit.
We have seen the weight many veterans carry in silence.
And we believe remembrance must include all of them.

This Memorial Day, we invite our community to go beyond slogans and ceremonies.
Check on one another.
Speak openly about mental health.
Hold space for grief.
And remember that healing, connection, and community can save lives.

May we honor the fallen not only with words, but with how we care for the living.

Labor Stall Remedies: Qi Stagnation

When labor feels stuck, irregular, or start-and-stop…
we look at movement.

In Chinese Medicine, this is often Qi stagnation: when energy isn’t flowing freely.

The goal?
Get Qi moving and create safety in the body.

✨ Try this during labor:

• Move your hips
Slow dancing, lunges, circles, swaying side to side

• Shake it out
Literally shake your arms, legs, jaw between contractions

• Deep sighing breaths
Long exhale > soft inhale to release tension

• Create privacy
Dim lights, quiet the room, limit observers

• Loving touch
Eye contact, reassurance, gentle massage

• Change positions
Forward leaning, hands and knees, walking

✨ Support with Chinese Medicine:
• Acupuncture to regulate Qi flow + calm the nervous system
• Bodywork to release pelvic and diaphragmatic tension
• Cupping to move stagnation

Qi moves when the body feels safe enough to let go.

If labor feels stuck, don’t just ask “how do I push harder?”
Ask… what needs to soften so movement can return?

Not all stalled labor is resistance.
Sometimes it’s depletion.

There’s a moment in long labor where the body simply runs low.

Low reserves.
Low stamina.
Low spark.

In Chinese Medicine, we recognize this as a Qi deficiency pattern when the energy required to sustain strong, coordinated contractions just isn’t fully there.

This can happen after:

• Days of early labor
• Little sleep
• Minimal nourishment
• Entering labor already exhausted

The instinct in modern birth culture is often to push harder.

But a depleted system doesn’t need pressure.

It needs restoration.

Warmth.
Fluids.
Simple nourishment.
Encouragement that rebuilds instead of drains.

This is why labor preparation matters so much. We aren’t just “getting the cervix ready” we’re building the energy reserves that carry you through the journey of birth.

Your body is not failing.
It may just be asking to be replenished.

If you’re in your third trimester, this is the time to start supporting your Qi.

When labor slows down, the question isn’t “what’s wrong?” it’s “what’s out of balance?”

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, labor is a dynamic process of movement, warmth, nourishment, and flow.

If contractions lose rhythm or progress feels paused, we look deeper than just the clock.

Is there tension?
Is there depletion?
Is there cold?
Is there dryness?
Is there a lack of nourishment?

Over the next few posts, we’ll be breaking down five Chinese medicine patterns that can influence labor progress and simple ways to support each one.

Birth is not mechanical.
It’s energetic. It’s physiological. It’s responsive.

And when we understand the pattern, we can support the process.

Stay tuned!

Gua sha helps move stagnation and support the body’s natural drainage processes. After an injury, fluid can accumulate in an area if circulation is disrupted or the pathways that transport it aren’t working efficiently.

By stimulating the tissue and encouraging movement, gua sha can help restore flow. In his case, his lungs aren’t mobilizing fluid as effectively as they should, which is why this treatment has been especially supportive for him.
