Saint John's Player's Recently Performed “The Good Doctor” and rave reviews ensued! A special thank you to Mark and Isabelle from Theatre Gigante who came back to direct this year’s spring staged reading.

“The Good Doctor” is a homage to Anton Chekhov. Made up of sketches based on some of Chekhov's short stories, Simon interconnects the sketches through a narrator character "The Writer” and brings his witty and comedic signature dialogue to the vignettes, exploring human nature, social absurdities, and the comedy found in life.

LEAHYS LUCK WAS RECENTLY AT SAINT JOHN'S

LEAHYS LUCK have been performing Irish folk music for over 35 years playing at festivals and performing arts centers throughout the Midwest. The band originated with brothers Tom and Brian Leahy and their six children. All left home starting families and careers in all corners of the United States. Today, world renowned bayanist (button accordion) Stas Venglevski joined the brothers to produce lively, widely accessible music. Brian's daughters come into town twice a year to perform on St. Patrick's Day and in August at Milwaukee's Irish Fest, Michelle comes in from Ojai, CA with vocal duties and fiddle, Sarah arrives from Orlando, FL on vocals and tin-whistle, Caitlin is from Boulder, CO on vocals, flute, and bohdran. The sisters are well known for their acapella version of The Parting Glass. You can find out more about them and sample the music at www.leahysluck.com

Artist Hilary Christensen's unique work is currently on display in our Museum Gallery (MOWA On The Lake) which is open to the public 10 a.m.–7 p.m. Hilary’s art will be exhibited through May 10.

According to Hilary, “I am a painter, goodwill enthusiast, and mother of 2 boys. About 15 years ago, I decided to “paint” with abandoned bits of plastic.

It all started harmlessly enough, my youngest broke toys as quickly as he picked them out. So, I started a drawer of his destruction, determined to repair some of the carnage. Legos left strewn about were soon added. Then dice and game pieces that didn't make their way back to the proper box. Before you know it, I'm hoarding bread tabs and picking up broken hanger tags in the Target parking lot.”

The Anthony Deutsch Trio Recently Performed at Saint John’s

Anthony Deutsch, who leads the trio, is a Milwaukee-based pianist, vocalist, and composer. This jazz trio embodies Anthony’s passion for improvisation, emotional depth and the classic American songbook. He delivers soulful, intimate interpretations of jazz standards and beyond, blending technical finesse with heartfelt storytelling. The balance of the trio features Clay Schaub on bass and Devin Drobka on drums.

The Trio showcases elegant takes on tunes such as "Skylark", "Solitude", "No Moon at All", and "Dewey Square", reflecting their commitment to both tradition and expressive freedom in the jazz tradition.

To Our Night Lights (3rd Shifters),

It was such an honor to see the smiles on your faces this morning. Your commitment, resilience, and consistency keep our community running smoothly through the night. While much of the world is asleep, you are hard at work keeping things moving, problem solving and holding it all together. It's not easy, and we recognize that. The hours are tough, and the visibility is not always there, but your impact is huge and deeply appreciate.

The "Breakfast Before Bed" event is just a small gesture to say we see you, we value you, and we thank you. Your presence, caring nature and steadfastness during the early hours set the tone for a successful day.

Making “Faux Wasp Nests” to Protect Saint John's Bees

Our Resident Gardeners, along with Charlie Koenen (Beevangelist), invited local artist, Jessica Poisl owner of “rubbish REMADE” to conduct a workshop making “Faux Wasps Nests.”

The faux nests are made from recycled plastic bags and plarn (yarn make from plastic) which is crocheted in the shape of a nest for the purpose of discouraging territorial wasps from starting their colonies near Saint John’s beehives. The faux nests work best when hung in early spring.

Thank you Jessica for providing the tools and hands-on instructions.
