🕊 Dear Beloved,

“I almost called you the other day…”

Sometimes I’ll start to call or text you…

Grief arrives in the smallest, most unpredictable moments.

You reach for your phone.

You hear a story they would have loved.

You see something funny.

And for a split second, you forget they’re gone.

Love leaves fingerprints on our everyday lives.

If you’ve ever started to call or text someone who is no longer here, you are not alone.

The truth is, grief is not forgetting.

Grief is remembering.

Remembering the conversations, the laughter, the advice, and the love that became part of who we are.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18

With compassion, we are praying with you for God’s love, peace, comfort, strength and hope.

🕊️“I thought we had more time.”🕊️

Perhaps these are the four most heartbreaking words grief ever speaks.

More time for one more conversation.

More time for one more hug.

More time to ask the questions we never asked.

More time to say the things we assumed they already knew.

Yet grief exists because LOVE exists.

The depth of our sorrow reflects the depth of our connection.

You are missing someone today.

May you find comfort in the memories they left behind, the lessons they taught, and the love that continues to live within you.

Take the picture.
Make the call.
Send the text.
Say “I love you.”
Give the hug.
Give the flowers.
Share a meal.

Because none of us truly knows how much time we have.

And for those of us whose Beloved Ones have already gone ahead, may their legacy continue to inspire the way we live, love and serve others.

With compassion, we are praying with you for God’s love, peace, comfort, strength and hope.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer.

It is a Sacred Pause.

A day to remember ALL of the Brave men and women who gave their lives so we could live in freedom.

For more than 250 years, African American veterans have served in every major American conflict, often fighting for freedoms abroad while still battling inequality at home. Their courage, sacrifice, leadership, and patriotism helped shape the very foundation of this nation. 🇺🇸🖤💫

🔹 During the Civil War, nearly 180,000 African American soldiers served in the Union Army, helping preserve the Union and end slavery.

🔹 The legendary Tuskegee Airmen of World War II flew more than 15,000 combat missions, helping pave the way for military integration.

🔹 More than 1 million African Americans served during World War II alone.

🔹 African American service members have courageously served in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and in every branch of the United States military.

🔹 Countless heroes returned home carrying visible and invisible wounds, yet continued building families, businesses, churches, schools, and communities.

Today, we honor the Veterans whose bravery protected our freedoms, whose resilience changed history, and whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

Memorial Day is not just about a long weekend.
It is about remembrance.
It is about gratitude.
It is about sacrifice.

At Northwest Funeral Chapel, Veteran-owned, we pause to remember those who gave EVERYTHING in service to this nation and the families who carry their legacy forward.

Dr. William Finlayson

Milwaukee didn’t just lose a physician.

Milwaukee lost a trailblazer.

A history maker.

A healer.

A giant among men.

Dr. William Finlayson opened doors in medicine during a time when many doors were still closed to Black physicians across America. As one of the first Black doctors to practice in Milwaukee hospitals, his excellence, courage, brilliance, and compassion forever changed healthcare in our city and inspired generations to follow.

His impact reached far beyond Milwaukee.

A proud Morehouse man and classmate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Finlayson represented a generation that chose purpose over fear, service over comfort, and legacy over applause.

He healed with skill.
He led with wisdom.
He lived with extraordinary impact.

And now, Milwaukee honors one of its own.

“ Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:23

With honor, appreciation and remembrance,

Have you ever heard of “Broken Heart Syndrome”? 💔

It’s real.

Also known as Takotsubo Syndrome, this serious heart condition can happen after intense emotional or physical stress and it affects thousands of people every year, most of whom are women.

What makes it so frightening is that it can FEEL like a heart attack:

• Chest pain• Shortness of breath
• Feeling faint• Sudden weakness
• Heart racing• Overwhelming emotional distress

Grief, trauma, caregiving stress, loss, anxiety, and life’s heavy burdens affect more than just the mind… they can affect the heart, too.

Your pain is valid.

Your heart matters.

And checking on the people you love truly matters.

Most importantly:
If you or someone you love experiences chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, severe weakness, or other acute symptoms, seek immediate emergency medical care and call 911 as appropriate.

Please don’t ignore the warning signs.

“ He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3

With compassion and care,

As Mother’s Day approaches, we hold close the truth that grief is not the opposite of love.

Grief IS love, love that still reaches, still remembers, still longs for one more hug, one more laugh, one more “I love you.”

For many, this week carries both beautiful memories and quiet tears. A favorite recipe, a familiar perfume, a song on the radio, a chair at the table, reminders that our Mothers, Grandmothers, Sisters, Daughters and all those we cherish never truly leave us.

They continue to live in our hearts, in our stories, in our traditions, and in the love they poured into our lives.

If this season feels heavy, please know you are not alone.

Your love matters.

Your grief matters.

And the memories of those you miss are still blooming in the lives they touched.

At Northwest Funeral Chapel, we honor every life, every legacy, and every heart carrying love through loss.

Thank you Mama Bettie Lewis.
