This week's Work Out Low Fat Elders (WOLFE) program was filled with learning, movement, delicious food, and heartfelt moments. Participants enjoyed a presentation from GLIIHC's new Occupational Therapist, Kathryn Malicki, a heart-healthy meal featuring salmon with raspberry sauce, and an energizing Zumba session.

The day also included a special honor song performed by Danny Preston to recognize Dane and thank him for the care and compassion he brought to the Health Promotion Disease Prevention team during his time as a Community Health Worker. Dane will be missed, but we are excited to see him continue his journey through graduate school and wish him all the best in this next chapter.

WOLFE is a free, year-round program for Native Elders and friends 45 and older. Each week, participants enjoy opportunities to socialize, stay active, learn about nutrition, and share a diabetic-friendly, heart-healthy meal inspired by traditional foods.

*There will be no WOLFE next week, Wednesday, August 12, while the HPDP team attends a conference. But check out the menu/schedule for the rest of the month!

Interested in joining WOLFE? Contact Diana Osberg at (414) 316-5018 to learn more.

It is with profound sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our friend and colleague, Bridget Costigan.

Bridget dedicated herself to caring for our patients and our community with compassion, kindness, and professionalism. She touched the lives of countless individuals, and her loss is deeply felt by all of us at the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center.

During this difficult time, our hearts are with Bridget's family, friends, coworkers, and the many patients who knew and trusted her.

We want to reassure our patients and community that GLIIHC remains committed to providing the care you need. Our healthcare team is here to support you, and we are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition for patients who were under Bridget's care. If you have questions about your care or need to schedule an appointment, please contact our clinic at (414) 383-9526.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we mourn this tremendous loss together.

We want to extend a huge thank you to Randy Cornelius and the entire Oneida Cultural Heritage Department. They joined us at the Native Wellness Garden last and shared traditional teachings about medicinal plants, offering insight into the cultural significance, uses, and teachings surrounding the plant relatives that have supported Indigenous communities for generations.
