Another Funeral Misconception...

Many people believe that if they have Power of Attorney for a loved one, that authority continues after death.

It doesn't.

A Power of Attorney ends immediately when a person passes away. Once death occurs, the individual who held Power of Attorney no longer has legal authority to make decisions on behalf of the deceased.

This often comes as a surprise to families and can create confusion during funeral planning.

Understanding the difference between Power of Attorney, Next of Kin, and the Personal Representative can help families avoid unnecessary stress during an already difficult time.
