Sometimes those online fitness and sleep experts just GET IT RIGHT!
As you've probably seen from every sleep expert, fitness expert, and health professional on Instagram: SLEEP IS IMPORTANT; GOOD SLEEP that is. And, it's TRUE. 100% true.
Good sleep means:
✅ Quality sleep with plenty of deep REM segments
✅ Enough sleep (you know that "get 8 hours" advice)
✅ Staying asleep (not waking up, no restless sleeping, no insomnia)
And it may seem really trivial, but your body (especially your brain) uses sleep to RECOVER. Good sleep = optimal performance and health. BAD sleep can lead to
- Weight gain
- Poor focus
- Mood changes (increased irritability, anxiety, stress, depression, etc.)
- Metabolic issues
- Getting sick more often thanks to a weakened immune system
- Higher risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke
