Dorsal approach reduction and contemporary thinner plating has a role in the treatment of select intra-articular distal radius fractures, including to help optimize the articular reduction. Our newest published technique paper describes a tripartite extensor retinacular flap coverage of a dorsal plate that helps reduce extensor tendon complications and may prevent need for hardware removal

PLASTIC SURGERY IN-SERVICE EXAM REVIEW

All of our trainees have to master not only clinical surgery, but all of theoretical plastic surgery. As part of ensuring they meet a high standard, they take an annual exam that that assesses their knowledge on general plastic surgery, craniofacial, breast, aesthetic, upper and lower extremity surgery. Happy to have hosted our residents for an in-service exam review ahead of their standardized nationally scored test in March.

Part of my love for plastic surgery comes from the necessity to translate extreme focus to hand skills. The constant pursuit of technical efficiency and perfection of outcome is insatiable. Minimization of unnecessary movement and limiting tissue trauma. Getting to the optimal dissection plane and developing it with an almost fluid rhythm. Finding that critical structure with ease. Executing a surgical maneuver and landing at the desired endpoint. Performing a meticulous layered closure. All of this done with mental clarity and focus.
