Really excited to share the news that I’m OFFICIALLY returning to triathlon next season, and doing so as an expert ambassador for IRONMAN Triathlon’s newest Woven Endurance campaign. Tamara Vázquez (D&K) and the team at Ironman have been working their tails off these past several months to create something incredible special.

I wouldn’t be the athlete or the woman I am if it weren’t for everything the sport of triathlon has done for me. I often joke that I’m a recovering triathlete, & most recently have talked about embracing my reluctant triathlete era. The reluctance is slowly being replaced with excitement to return as a different athlete now than I was a decade ago.

So here I am, mapping out training plans and race schedules for 2027 and feeling a weird and exciting full circle moment, knowing I also have the opportunity to give back to the sport that helped me find (& embrace) my athlete identity.

The race schedule isn’t finalized yet, but I’m looking at:
March: 50k run + 100 mi gravel bike at Midsouth Double
April-June: become a less reluctant swimmer 🤣
July: Calgary 70.3
August: Triathlon Nationals

I’m planning to attend at least one more 70.3 as an expert ambassador, though the race is still up in the air for that one. I’ll be actively writing blog posts for Ironman, contributing to webinars, and more. If you have any requests for content or ideas on how to make long course triathlon more accessible and inclusive for women, please drop them below. 👇

We asked the team which fictional character they'd actually be.

Avery said Obi-Wan before the sentence was finished. Staci went completely blank and admitted she has no idea. Billy tried to eat the mic. Erin never stopped being Harriet the Spy. Laurie said Lorelai Gilmore, and the coffee budget suddenly makes sense.

We did not ask who would win. Obi-Wan already has the high ground.

Your turn. Are you still the kid you were, or did you trade characters somewhere along the way?

I just looked at the webinar registration for tomorrow night and admittedly started fangirling as I scrolled through the names.

So many incredible athletes and coaches who are all quietly OR loudly pushing for change to get (& keep) more women in sport. Athletes and coaches who have seen and felt it all. All showing up to talk about the stuff we usually keep quiet: the mental and psychological experiments of being (and/or supporting) women in sport.

Pam Boteler and I organized the workshop around the questions you submitted. When reviewing them, I noticed they cluster led into 3 core challenges:

1. Why do I get in my own way?
2. How do I actually perform when it matters?
3. Who am I behind what I achieve?

I’m coming in with four assumptions, & naming them up front:
-let the difficult thoughts and feelings in
-you are more than your performance
-sport is a vehicle for you to work through your s**t
-sustainable excellence beats burnout every time

The goal is to address all of this. Can I actually cover all of these things in 90 minutes?!

[insert *awkward silence* gif here 😅]

Yes. Yes we can. Because tomorrow night isn’t about leaving with a perfect plan or quick fix or magic trick (spoiler alert: there are none). It’s about naming what’s actually happening—the stuff athletes think about at 2am before a race, the version of yourself you’re trying to be and the one you actually are, the collision between sports and life when it gets messy.

Alongside folks who’ve been in it, experienced it, and/or have supported others who have.

Let’s get scrappy!

What you say before and after competitions tells me A LOT about your mental game.

As a sport psychologist, I hear these patterns ALL the time:

🚩 Self-handicapping (“I didn’t taper well, probably getting sick...”): Setting up excuses before you even start protects your ego but destroys your confidence. Athletes who self-handicap tend to decrease their performance AND their teammates’ confidence in them.

🚩 “No excuses” (but here’s a list): “I worked all week, drove 8 hours, my knee was messed up, barely slept... but NO EXCUSES.” You just listed five while claiming you don’t make them. This ‘suffering as a badge of honor’ pattern makes it impossible to learn what actually needs to change.

🚩 The excuse spiral (“Course was hard, nutrition was off, weather wasn’t ideal, but I’ll NEVER GIVE UP!”): Externalizing everything while declaring endless grit might feel productive, but it keeps you from focusing on what you can actually control.

🚩 Success deflection (“Oh it was nothing, I just got lucky...”): When you downplay genuine achievement, you rob yourself of confidence-building moments AND you make it harder for others to celebrate with you. Owning your wins is healthy!

🚩 The apology spiral (“Sorry for being slow, sorry I’m holding everyone up...”): You’re apologizing for existing and taking up space. You have every right to be here, to have an off day, to be exactly where you are in your journey. Stop shrinking.

🚩 Harsh self-criticism (“I’m so stupid, I always do this”): When you treat yourself like an opponent instead of a teammate, you activate your threat response. Self-compassionate athletes actually perform better and recover faster from setbacks.

✅ Healthy growth mindset (“Here’s what I learned and what I’ll adjust”): This is what real resilience looks like—honest assessment paired with curiosity, not toxic positivity or self-flagellation.

Your race-day language reveals your mental approach. The good news? You can change the script.

Which pattern do you recognize in yourself? 👇

6 months and 24 episodes into the Feisty Women's Performance podcast. We can look at downloads and stats to get a sense of what’s working well (& what’s not), but as a mixed methods girlie, I also want to hear from you:
1. What do you love? What do you want more of?
2. What haven’t you loved? What do you want less of?
3. What guest experts would you like to hear from in episodes to come? (Tag them below if they’re on IG!)
4. What topics would you like us to cover?

Drop your thoughts below so we can take them into account for summer/fall planning!

Whatever it was I was searching for, I found it today at Unbound.

5 x 200
2 x 100

7/7 finishes
0 flats, crashes, or mechanicals (how?!?!)
Countless lessons learned

Today was wild. Mud. Wind. Rain. Flooded tunnels. Cattle on course staring me down. More mud. More rain. More wind. Hail. Probably forgetting something.

More tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who sent such thoughtful messages and texts while on the ride. It meant more than you know.

A brief break from our usual scheduled content to share a behind-the-scenes snapshot of how much I love this team ❤️

I started Skadi 3 years ago with the goal to support more girls and women in sport. It has turned into so much more than I ever imagined.

Thank you to each and every person who has trusted us to be a part of their journey (in life AND sport). And thank you to everyone who has mentored, coached, and supported us in other ways to help us round out our third year strong.

I’ll never get sick of the feeling of waking up, looking at my schedule for the day, and feeling genuinely excited about each item on the calendar. And we have all of you to thank for it.

Here’s to year 4!

PS: is Billy on the couch? Of course not 🫣

What. A. Day.

Energized. Humbled. Exhausted. Inspired. All at the same time. Thank you to TRIA, Dr. Heather Bergeson, Megan Reams, and the planning committee for putting on one heck of a female athlete conference today. The roster of speakers was wonderful.

So many highlights and not sure where to start, but it’s safe to say great things happen when you find the people who inspire you, listen to them and learn from them, and lean into your values.

There’s something special about days and events like today. I know it’s not easy to find the time, energy, resources, and FUNDING to put events like this one together—so thank you to everyone who attended and worked behind the scenes to make it happen.

And now? We rest ❤️
