Skin cancer ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด happen on the ears. Iโ€™m talking every.single.crevice (swipe to refresh your memory). Iโ€™ve also seen skin cancer track down into the ear canal ๐Ÿ˜ณ. โฃI definitely see more skin cancer in this location in men, which is likely due to longer hair in women providing protection against UV rays.

The mini beaver blade that Iโ€™m holding is super helpful when performing Mohs surgery on skin cancers in challenging locations on the ears. Iโ€™m curious to hear if other derms use/like these as much as I do???โฃ

Now that the weather is warmer in MN and WI, consider this a friendly reminder to apply sunscreen to all parts of your ears, and find a brimmed had to give your ears some shade ๐Ÿ‘’. Have a great weekend!โฃ

2020 certainly taught us that anything can happen. I closed out the yearโ€”for the first time everโ€”stranded overnight when blizzard conditions made it impossible for me to drive home from work โ„๏ธ. This was icing on the cake of an unimaginable year.โฃ

Luckily, blizzards come with some warning, and I had hastily thrown a bag in my car that morning with clothes and essentials. From now on, I am keeping a "blizzard bag" ๐ŸŽ’ in my car! I have a gentle body wash (why do the hotel soaps still suck up ALL the moisture in your skin?) and a filled with my usual skincare products stashed away. I also have blankets, hand warmers, a shovel, and snacks in my car. โฃ
โฃ
As painful as this year has been, the unlikely events of 2020 will hopefully allow us to proceed in a proactive, rather than reactive, manner moving forward. Here's to a new year!
