There’s usually more to the story of pain than just “tendinitis” or a “strain”. These are words that insurances use and words used to describe pain where there were no other ways to describe it. This is an athlete who waited to come in because of a perceived “calf strain” and was unsure of what to do about it.

Thankfully the patient made their way in and we were able to diagnose a tear of the gastrocnemius muscle and a tear of the Achilles’ tendon at the myotendinous junction.

Now that we have a confirmed diagnosis and can modify activity and confidently begin the most innovative treatments for an optimal outcome.

High quality platelet rich plasma (PRP) and other biologic agents obtained from the patient can be placed precisely into the tear using this same ultrasound.

In conjunction with this, next level physical therapy to appropriately protect the tissue in its reparative phase while strengthening the remainder of the leg and body as a whole will provide optimal results.
