One week. A whole lot of gratitude to do this work ❤️

✨Walk-in therapy and finding our inner strength during NapN'ars Baby’s Space .
✨Rebecca holding it down with clients in our office.
✨Transformative Community Healing Sessions with Minnesota’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families—supported by Greater Twin Cities United Way 80x3 program- and with Minnesota's West Team at First Children's Finance.
✨Communication Navigation education with the City of Minneapolis.
✨Supporting the fellows All Square & The Legal Revolution and connecting with Arc's Value Village 💙 .
✨Jamil with Ramsey County’s 911 Dispatch Centerand leadership
✨And showing up for students Obama Montessori

✨Then, because life isn’t only about the work, we celebrated Z being selected as a school crossing guard, which clearly called for dinner G*i Noi . ❤️

✨ And we are about to hit the road to North Dakota to celebrate our CEO, Jamil, who is being inducted into the Hall of Fame NDSCS🎉🎊🍾

Some weeks really capture what we mean when we say: Room. Relief. Resource.

In offices, schools, workplaces and communities—and sometimes over a really good dinner.

What a week🥹

Last year in our keynote, we talked about what resilience actually means—beyond the buzzword that can sometimes cause more harm than good.

This year, we’re asking: Now what?

Next Tuesday, Jamil and Sara are returning to the Many Faces of Community Health Conference for the closing plenary:

“Now What? From Resilience to Action.”

We’ll explore practical ways community health professionals can care for their bodies, stay grounded in upended times, and move from simply enduring to intentional action.

Because resilience isn’t just about what we can withstand—it’s also about what we do next. ❤️

As adults, we forget how healing play can be—not just for us, but for our entire family.

Play gives us a chance to put down the schedules, responsibilities, stress, and seriousness of everyday life and just be together.

So one of our parenting rules is pretty simple: find ways to play together. Find joy in the day to day.

Be silly. Try something new. Let your kids see you be a beginner. Laugh at yourself. Move your body. Have fun with each other.

For our family, lately, that looks like hip-hop class House of Dance Twin Cities .

We're together learning. We’re laughing. We’re making memories.

And sometimes, that’s the work. ❤️

On August 20th, we said goodbye to our mom, mother-in-love, and our Granny, Darcel Lott. ❤️

Darcel was a nurse for over 40 years, spending much of her career working overnight shifts so she could be home caring for her children during the day as a single parent. Caring for others was simply who she was.

After decades of caring for others, Darcel took her final breaths in the very hospital where she had spent so many years caring for patients.

In her honor, the family has created a scholarship to support a future nursing student like her and carry her legacy of care forward.

We love you, Granny. Your legacy of care will continue. ❤️

To contribute to the scholarship in her honor, visit the link in our bio.

What if the diagnosis is wrong?

On September 28, I’m opening the Pediatric Behavioral Health Summit with a conversation about a subject that is both professional and deeply personal to me: misdiagnosis.

I’ll be talking specifically about our children: what we miss when we move too quickly toward diagnosis, and what becomes possible when we understand behavior through trauma, environment, culture, relationships, and lived experience.

Let's restructure our mental health system together !

We always love partnering with and yesterday was no exception. We had the opportunity to provide training on Inclusive Workplaces Through Emotional Intelligence—essential ingredients for building healthy, connected teams.

Every time we work with the HECC staff, the conversations are rich, thoughtful, and multifaceted, often expanding well beyond the workplace and into the broader ways we support one another and our communities. It’s clear how deeply this team cares about the children and families they serve, and that commitment is truly inspiring.

We’re grateful for this continued partnership and always leave these conversations feeling energized and motivated.

Years ago, we met Sahr and Sarah Brima’s family at Zola’s daycare—one of those everyday moments that quietly changes everything.

Jamil and Sahr connected right away, two brilliant entrepreneurial minds recognizing something in each other. ((Picture #2 captured their first meeting in 2023))What started there didn’t just stay a conversation—it turned into action. Together, that connection helped create dozens of no-cost therapy sessions for people who too often get pushed to the margins.

But what’s grown since then is even more meaningful. That shared spirit of building and giving has deepened into real friendship—not just between our kids, but between our families.

This is what community actually looks like. It’s not transactional. It’s not performative. It’s relationships, trust, and showing up for each other in ways that ripple outward.

Grateful for this journey together 🤍

Celebrating 12 years of marriage for Jamil and Sara, the Co-Founders of Creative Kuponya. ❤️🥰❤️

Their story began in a training to help youth—where they spent a week learning alongside one another before life took them in different directions.

They found their way back to each other serendipitously at Target three years later. On their first date, Jamil shared his vision of becoming a therapist, like Sara, and let her know he was applying to graduate programs all across the country. Although opportunities could have taken him elsewhere, their path became clear—stay in Minnesota and build something meaningful together.

What followed is a powerful example of shared purpose and commitment:
12 years of marriage
8 years of parenting Z (the real boss) and
8 years of building Creative Kuponya—work dedicated to reimagining mental healthcare in America.

The journey has not been easy, but it has been deeply rewarding. Their partnership reflects both the challenges and the strength required to sustain a healthy relationship, while also creating impact beyond themselves.

Grateful to witness and uplift this kind of love, vision, and purpose in action. 💫

Our “serious” Summer Leadership Seminar planning meeting (for the Nap'Nars 🥰), at our favorite neighborhood spot, , somehow led to a piece of chocolate cake that could feed a small village 🍰

Brittane (Director of Ops & Wellness) was deep in strategy, obviously😜. Very focused. Very demure.

We'd like to say we don't have any fun at work… and honestly, the evidence is overwhelming😉
