Reading about clinical hypnosis is one thing. Learning to use it confidently with patients is something entirely different.
That philosophy has guided the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute's Annual Workshops for fifteen years. From October 15-17, 2026, pediatric healthcare professionals from around the world will gather at the Q Center in St. Charles, Illinois for an intensive three-day training experience focused on developing practical, immediately applicable clinical skills.
What makes NPHTI different is its commitment to experiential learning. Participants don't simply attend presentations- they practice. Through demonstrations, supervised exercises, faculty mentorship, case discussions, and small-group learning with an exceptional faculty-to-participant ratio, clinicians actively develop the skills needed to integrate hypnosis and therapeutic communication into everyday patient care.
This year offers three distinct educational pathways: the Fundamentals Workshop for clinicians building core pediatric hypnosis skills, the Utilization & Expanded Clinical Applications Workshop for those ready to refine and expand their approach, and the NEW Case-Based Advanced Masterclasses, designed for experienced clinicians seeking deeper exploration of complex clinical cases involving anxiety, pain, neurodiversity, disorders of gut-brain interaction, storytelling, and habit disorders.
No matter where you are in your professional journey, the goal remains the same: helping clinicians leave with greater confidence, stronger clinical tools, and new ideas they can bring directly into their work with children, adolescents, and families.
Join us October 15-17, 2026, in St. Charles, Illinois. Registration is now open at www.nphti.org/workshops

The National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute is honored to announce the 15th Annual Pediatric Clinical Hypnosis Skills Development Workshops, taking place October 15-17, 2026 - and this year’s gathering represents an exciting new chapter for the NPHTI community!
For the first time in the organization’s history, the workshops will be held outside of Minnesota at the beautiful Q Center in St. Charles, just outside Chicago. Surrounded by wooded trails, quiet gathering spaces, and a retreat-style atmosphere intentionally designed to encourage reflection and connection, this setting creates the opportunity for something increasingly rare in modern healthcare education: the ability to slow down, think deeply, and learn in genuine community with colleagues who understand the complexity of pediatric clinical work.
At NPHTI, the learning extends far beyond lectures. For the last fifteen years, clinicians from across disciplines and across the world have gathered not only to strengthen hypnosis skills, but also to build enduring professional relationships rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and shared purpose. Through extensive small-group experiential training and close mentorship from internationally respected faculty, participants develop the kind of collegial clinical network that continues long after the workshops conclude- a community of peers who can help generate ideas, refine treatment approaches, offer consultation perspectives, and support one another through the nuanced realities of caring for children and families.
This year’s programming reflects that same spirit of collaborative growth. Alongside our established Fundamentals and Utilization & Expanded Clinical Applications workshops, we are proud to introduce the Case-Based Advanced Masterclasses: mentor-guided groups designed specifically for experienced clinicians ready to deepen their expertise through thoughtful discussion of real clinical cases. Expanded panel discussions, mini-intensives, and large-group dialogue will further create space for interdisciplinary exchange, creativity, and advanced clinical reflection.
More than a conference, NPHTI is an immersive professional retreat - one that nurtures both clinical development and personal restoration. Whether you are early in your hypnosis training journey or have been practicing for years, we invite you to join us this October to learn, connect, reflect, and grow within a truly remarkable professional community.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month- a meaningful reminder that emotional regulation is not simply something children are expected to “have,” but rather a set of skills that can be observed, modeled, practiced, and strengthened over time. Many children and adolescents experience emotions physically long before they can clearly describe them in words. Anxiety may appear as stomachaches, irritability, restlessness, headaches, withdrawal, or difficulty sleeping. One of the most valuable things clinicians and caregivers can do is help young people develop a language for noticing and understanding these internal experiences without shame or fear.
Hypnosis-informed approaches can be especially powerful in this process because they encourage curiosity, body awareness, imagination, and self-observation rather than judgment. Instead of asking a child “What’s wrong?”, clinicians and parents might ask, “Where do you notice that feeling in your body?” or “If that worry had a shape, color, or temperature, what would it be like?” These types of questions help children shift from feeling overwhelmed by emotions to becoming observers of their own experience- an important first step in self-regulation. Younger children often respond well to imagery-based language, such as imagining a “storm cloud” of frustration slowly drifting away or picturing their body filling with warmth and calm like sunshine spreading across the ground. Teens may connect more with metaphors of resetting, grounding, or “turning down the volume” on racing thoughts.
At home, families can reinforce these skills through small, consistent moments of emotional reflection. Parents might normalize emotional fluctuations by saying things like, “Feelings change and move through us,” or “Your body may be trying to tell us something important right now.” Creating regular opportunities for emotional check-ins- especially during calm moments rather than only during distress- helps children build emotional vocabulary and confidence in communicating their needs. Simple practices like slow breathing before bed, brief moments of guided imagery, or noticing physical sensations during stressful moments can gradually strengthen a child’s sense of internal safety and control.
Mental health support does not always begin with complex interventions. Often, it begins with helping a child feel understood, listened to, and capable of influencing their own emotional experience. By teaching children the language of self-regulation early, clinicians and caregivers help build resilience that can support them not only during childhood, but throughout their entire lives.

The National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute is proud to present its 15th Annual Pediatric Clinical Hypnosis Skills Development Workshops, to be held October 15–17, 2026, at the Q Center in St. Charles, Illinois!
This year represents an important transition for NPHTI, as the workshops move beyond Minnesota for the first time in the organization’s history. Located just outside Chicago, the Q Center provides a retreat-style educational environment designed to support focused learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional restoration within a peaceful natural setting.
For more than a decade, NPHTI has provided advanced pediatric hypnosis training to clinicians across disciplines, including physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses, dentists, therapists, and child life specialists. The workshops are known for their experiential structure, with extensive supervised practice opportunities and a high faculty-to-participant ratio that allows clinicians to actively integrate concepts into clinical application.
The 2026 workshops will include three educational tracks: Fundamentals of Pediatric Clinical Hypnosis, Utilization & Expanded Clinical Applications, and the newly developed Case-Based Advanced Masterclasses. This new advanced offering is specifically designed for experienced clinicians seeking deeper mentorship and collaborative consultation through discussion of participant-prepared clinical cases.

Understanding autism requires us to move beyond standardized scripts and toward truly individualized therapeutic communication. On May 19th at 11:00am Central Time, the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute welcomes Andrew Barnes, MD, MPH for this month’s webinar, Using Hypnosis with Youth on the Autism Spectrum.
This webinar will examine how clinicians can thoughtfully adapt hypnotic approaches for autistic children and adolescents by attending to sensory processing, communication style, special interests, each patient’s unique strengths, and more. As mind-body strategies become increasingly relevant in supporting anxiety, pain, emotional regulation, sleep, and medical coping, this conversation offers practical guidance on how hypnosis can be used in a way that is respectful, flexible, and clinically effective.
Dr. Barnes is known for his nuanced, developmentally informed teaching, and this webinar promises to provide valuable insight for clinicians seeking to better serve neurodivergent youth through pediatric hypnosis. We hope you will join us for another rich hour of learning and discussion. Registration is now open.

You’re invited to something truly special.
The National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute proudly announces its 15th Annual Pediatric Clinical Hypnosis Skills Development Workshops taking place October 15–17, 2026, and this year marks an exciting evolution in both setting and scope.
For the first time, we gather at the beautiful Q Center in St. Charles, Illinois, a retreat-style environment just outside Chicago designed to foster both deep learning and meaningful connection. Surrounded by 95 acres of wooded landscape, walking trails, and quiet spaces for reflection, this immersive setting allows clinicians to step away from daily demands and fully engage in both professional growth and personal renewal.
Now in its 15th year, this flagship training continues to bring together a global community of pediatric clinicians committed to “helping children help themselves.” Through a uniquely experiential model where over half of the time is spent in small-group practice with expert faculty at a 6:1 ratio, participants don’t just learn about hypnosis; they actively develop, refine, and integrate these skills into real clinical application. Whether you are building foundational skills or expanding advanced techniques, this workshop is designed to meet you where you are and move your practice forward.
What’s new for 2026? A great deal! Alongside our established Fundamentals and Utilization & Expanded Clinical Applications tracks, we are proud to introduce NEW Case-Based Advanced Masterclasses- an intensive, mentor-guided experience designed for seasoned clinicians ready to deepen their expertise through real clinical cases. This year also brings expanded programming, including mini-intensives, panel discussions, and large-group collaboration, creating even more opportunities for dialogue, creativity, and clinical insight.
This is more than a workshop- it is a fully immersive professional experience. Attendees will select either an Overnight Package (including accommodations, meals, and full access to retreat amenities) or a Day Package (including meals, refreshments, and access to the grounds), ensuring that every participant can engage in a way that supports both learning and restoration. With space limited in this retreat setting, early registration is strongly encouraged.
If you are a pediatric clinician seeking to expand your clinical toolkit, connect with like-minded professionals, and engage in meaningful, hands-on learning, we invite you to join us this October!

Less than 3 weeks to go! On April 29, 2026 at 11:00 AM CDT, the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute invites you to join the 2026 Online Mid-Year Meetup: Storytelling in Hypnosis- a 4-hour, practice-centered training for clinicians looking to deepen their use of narrative in pediatric care.
In clinical work with children, stories are not simply engaging, they are instrumental. They influence how symptoms are understood, how emotions are regulated, and how children come to see their own capacity for coping and change. This experiential workshop will explore how to shape stories with intention: examining what makes them therapeutically effective, how to adapt them across developmental stages, and how to reframe challenges into pathways for resilience and growth.
We are honored to welcome Maren O. Lindheim, clinical psychologist at Oslo University Hospital. Dr. Lindheim’s work with children and adolescents facing serious medical conditions integrates storytelling, clinical hypnosis, imagery, and nature-based approaches to support coping and meaning-making. She also leads advanced hypnosis training in Norway and contributes to ongoing research through the Friluftssykehuset / Outdoor Care Retreat. Her perspective brings both clinical depth and international insight to this topic.
The day is designed to be active and clinically relevant, combining focused teaching with small-group practice and real-time application supported by faculty. With the event now just weeks away, this is an ideal time to commit to a learning experience that will directly inform your work.
If you’re ready to expand your clinical creativity while staying grounded in therapeutic intention, we invite you to join us. The stories you help shape can profoundly influence how children experience both illness and healing. Register today at https://www.nphti.org/2026midyear

Some techniques become foundational not because they are simple, but because they are powerful when used with intention.
On April 21 at 11:00 AM CT, National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute continues its 2026 Webinar Series with The Actual Favorite Place, presented by Maren O. Lindheim, Clinical Psychologist.
The “favorite place” is one of the most familiar tools in pediatric hypnosis, but in skilled hands, it becomes far more than a calming exercise. This session invites clinicians to revisit and deepen their understanding of this technique, exploring how it can be adapted, expanded, and used therapeutically to support emotional regulation, resilience, and a child’s sense of internal safety. Drawing from her clinical work with children and adolescents navigating hospitalization and chronic illness, Dr. Lindheim brings a thoughtful, experience-based perspective to this widely used intervention.
As with all NPHTI webinars, the session is designed to be clinically relevant, with space for reflection, application, and discussion. Registration is required to attend live or access the recording.
