PACE Yourself is a progressive pathway for life fulfillment. Organized around four modules: Relax, Heal, Fortify, and Engage. Each one has a prime focus; and each module builds naturally upon what came before. PACE Yourself guides you through an arc of care, aimed to meet you where you are.

Our focus for the PACE Relax module begins with safety. Relax creates a familiar, consistent environment in which your body and mind can begin to settle — to experience ease, to trust the process, and to reconnect with the natural capacity for rest and repair that is already within you. For many people, this is the first time in a long time that they have simply been allowed to arrive.

This Labor Day weekend, make space to rest and Relax. Afterwards, we’ll continue to expand our focus to Heal.

The month of September drops hints of change. Perhaps a new “back to school” routine kicks in. Potentially, cooler fall weather sparks change in how we dress. Daylight hours shift more noticeably. At times of imposed change or self-directed change, it is important to check in with yourself. Notice what is in balance and what needs attention, to move through change with greater ease.

Today’s Contemplations in Color prompts you to tune into your inner sense of life, vitality & health.
• Choose a design that reminds you of change, such as a calculus triangle. *
• Allow the triangle to prompt awareness of you as body/mind/spirit.
• Be mindful of body sensations. Choose colors to represent what you notice: Temperature. Tense or Relaxed. Vital or depleted. Sleep deprived or alert.
• Next, pick a color that you associate with your state of mind. Are you centered or scattered? Calm or anxious? Somewhere in between?
• Then focus on you as spirit/awareness. Imagine that as you color, you are calling forward intentions for health and balance. Perhaps green represents abundance. Blue is peace. Ask yourself, what would you like to add to your “recipe” of health and fulfilment?

Whether change is experienced via external conditions or because of an inner growth journey, we can practice tools to help move through change with greater ease. Begin by noticing what is present; then take the next small step towards a desired change. It may be as simple as just breathe! And breathe again. Also, a little amusement goes a long way.

Regulation Happens Through Practice

Your nervous system learns through experience. This is neuroplasticity, the capacity to change through repeated experience. It means regulation isn't something we accomplish once and then never think about again. It's something we practice.

Try this simple reset:

PAUSE - Stop for a moment and allow yourself to arrive where you are.
FEEL - Notice the support beneath your body. Feel your feet, your seat, or your hands.
BREATHE - Take a comfortable breath in. Let the exhale be slow and unforced.
SOFTEN - Release whatever tension you can, especially around the jaw, shoulders, belly, and hands.
ORIENT - Look around. Notice your surroundings. Let your eyes take in what's safe and familiar.

Then pause.

You don't need to feel completely relaxed. Even a small movement toward greater ease, awareness, and presence is valuable. Over time, these moments can become part of a larger capacity for resilience, recovery, and connection.

Healing isn't always about doing more. Sometimes it begins by giving the body permission to settle.

This is the same kind of settling this month's PACE Relax was about, and it's still available if you're ready for someone to facilitate alongside you as you practice and experience. Give us a call today.

Creating a Path Back Toward Rest

Once we notice the nervous system is activated, the next step isn't to force relaxation. It's to give the body signals of safety. Small, consistent experiences can help create a shift toward parasympathetic activity:

• Slow, comfortable breathing
• Longer, unhurried exhalations
• Gentle movement
• Softening the jaw, shoulders, and hands
• Time in nature
• Quiet, restorative moments
• Supportive touch
• Feeling connected to people we trust

The goal isn't to eliminate stress. It's to help the nervous system become more adaptable, able to activate when needed and return toward restoration when the challenge has passed.

Think of it less like flipping a switch and more like turning down the volume.
With practice, the body can become more familiar with the experience of settling.

Regulation is a practice. Not a performance.

Some days the body won't quite settle, even when nothing is technically wrong. That's not a flaw. It's the nervous system doing exactly what it's built to do.

Stress, pain, uncertainty, overstimulation, lack of sleep, illness, and even the pace of daily life can keep the body oriented toward protection and action. This is the sympathetic side of the autonomic nervous system.

That response isn't "bad." It's protective. It helps us respond when something requires attention or action.

The challenge comes when the body has difficulty returning to a state of rest, restoration, digestion, connection, and recovery. That's where the parasympathetic nervous system becomes important.

Rather than forcing yourself to "calm down," regulation begins with something simpler:

Notice.

Notice your breathing. Notice your muscle tension. Notice your heart rate. Notice whether you feel settled or prepared to respond.

Awareness is the beginning of regulation.
You don't have to fight your nervous system. You can learn to listen to it.

You don't need a clear diagnosis, a defined goal, or any prior experience with this kind of care to start. You need only to arrive.

The first step is a phone call, not a commitment. It's a chance for Amy to hear where you are and for you to get a sense of what PACE Yourself might offer.

PACE Yourself is built around four modules — Relax, Heal, Fortify, Engage — each building on the one before it; but the arc of care is a guideline, a pathway. You're met wherever you actually are, not where a schedule says you should be.

Sessions take place in a room designed around that same idea: original paintings on the walls, soft music, nothing that feels clinical. Every session opens with a simple check-in, what's present for you today, and unfolds from there, guided or silent, at your pace.

The first module, Relax, is where the arc begins for everyone: building the safety the body needs before anything else can happen.

There's a version of you that feels more settled, less scattered, more present in your own life. Most people have felt it before, usually somewhere unplanned, a quiet moment that arrived on its own.

PACE encourages four things: presence, awareness, centering, engagement. PACE is a reminder of what's already available to you, even on a full day.

This month we're talking about what it takes to find your way back to that place.

Every Body of Water Is Different.

A swimming pool...
A quiet lake...
A flowing river...
The ocean...
Each asks something different of you.

Always consider:
• Water temperature
• Depth
• Visibility
• Currents
• Weather
• Your swimming ability

Respect the water.
Enjoy the water.
Come home safely.
