Veterinary technicians have come a long way, from our early beginnings when we were known only as animal health technicians and had only a handful of schools with training programs to now close to 150 accredited school programs in the United States. Technicians work in a variety of settings such as large and small animal private veterinary practices, research facilities, university hospitals, and
zoos. We can perform most duties related to animal care, including anesthesia, medical imaging, lab work, dentistry, surgical assisting, patient treatments, as well as client education; however we may not diagnose conditions, give a prognosis for conditions, perform surgery or prescribe medication.
