Meet our Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) 🌱

Camila (she/her) is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant with Roots and loves dismantling barriers for the families she serves. Through her experience, she has become deeply passionate about advocating for informed consent and supporting families where they are, whether it is prenatal or postnatal, to help them achieve their lactation goals while helping reduce barriers.

She was born in Chile with ancestral ties to the Mapuche people of her country, but has lived in the United States most of her life. She has made Minneapolis her home for over 10 years never leaving her artsy neighborhood.

She has been working in the lactation field for over 7 years, and is also an Indigenous birth doula, a Reiki practitioner, a body worker and artist.

She lives in Minneapolis with her partner, their two children, one cat, one dog and 4 hens. She loves reading, getting her toes in the soil while gardening, and making things with her hands.

She is an activist to the core, and is very involved in maternal health, q***r reproductive rights and equity. You can always find her talking about pottery, plants, hiking and books.

Consults are offered in English and Spanish ✨

Happy International Day of the Midwife to our beloved midwives at Roots Community Birth Center + around the world. ✨

The work they do daily is so vast and imperative to the health and wellbeing of birthing people and their babies.

At Roots, our midwives see folks in clinic prenatally, postpartum and for well person care; lead childbirth education classes and parenting groups; support folks through birth at our birth center; and all the behind the scenes advocacy work to improve access and outcomes for families locally and nationally. ✨

The first baby has been born at our new Roots Community Birth Center! 🌱

This family had a fast first birth- baby was born within 15 minutes of arriving at our birth center! They were surrounded by the best birth team: partner, doula, midwife + birth assistant, and birth photographer. It was an unforgettable first birth in our new space. We are overjoyed for this family and will continue to support them for postpartum care and beyond.

Welcome to the world, sweet baby Zai! ✨

C-Section Awareness Month | April, 2026 🌱

Every year, April is the month dedicated to bringing awareness to cesarean births and the impacts it has on birthing families. We’ve continued to see a rise in the frequency of c-section births broadly in our country and locally in our state. Care at Roots Community Birth Center itself is a preventative model of care that reduces preventable c-sections. Our midwives are skilled in supporting low-risk pregnancies and physiologic birth.

Roots Community Birth Center is one of the few stand-alone birth center in the state of Minnesota that can support VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) families. ✨ Promoting VBAC as a safe option for many, is an important component of Cesarean Birth Awareness Month. At Roots, we can support care for those who have had one cesarean birth.

While Roots midwives does not perform cesarean surgery, we do care for folks who started in our care prenatally, needed to give birth via c-section for various medical reasons and resume care with them postpartum once they are discharged home from the hospital. The frequency of our visits postpartum (compared to conventional OB postpartum visits) support the emotional load of a change in birth and postpartum more fully. 🌿

Through awareness, advocacy, research, and resources we can move towards reducing the incidence of c-sections in this country, supporting mental health and advocating for vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). ✨
