What. A. Night.

If there was one place to be for National Night Out this year, it was Abiitan Mill City!

Our outdoor spaces came alive as residents, neighbors, friends, and community partners gathered for an unforgettable evening celebrating everything that makes Minneapolis, and Abiitan, so special. The air was filled with music, laughter, conversation, and the unmistakable energy of people simply enjoying being together.

From lively community singalongs and incredible live performances to tarot readings, delicious food, dancing, and countless moments of connection, there truly was something for everyone. Watching generations come together to celebrate community was nothing short of magical.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible partners at MacPhail Center for Music (with whom this event could not have happened without), our talented performers, dedicated volunteers, and every resident, family member, neighbor, and guest who helped make the evening such a tremendous success. Your enthusiasm and community spirit transformed our very first National Night Out into something truly unforgettable.

If this inaugural celebration was any indication, we've started a tradition we can't wait to continue for years to come.

At Abiitan Mill City, “Cooking with Mark” has become a fan favorite —bringing residents together to create delicious treats, share memories, and enjoy one another's company.

This weekend, our talented bakers whipped up warm, flaky biscuits to pair with the homemade jam we made last week, along with a batch of irresistible triple lemon cookies. The kitchen was filled with the aroma of fresh baking, lively conversation, and plenty of smiles.

But the best part wasn't what came out of the oven—it was what happened around the table. Favorite family recipes were shared, stories were exchanged, friendships were strengthened, and new memories were made.

At Abiitan, we believe the most meaningful moments are often the simplest ones. Whether we're baking, celebrating, or gathering over a homemade treat, every experience is an opportunity to connect, create joy, and build community.

At Abiitan Mill City, music is more than entertainment. It's a way to connect, reminisce, laugh, and create meaningful moments together.

We're fortunate to enjoy incredible performances throughout the year from talented musicians, including artists from MacPhail and other local favorites. But this performance was especially memorable because the musician was one of our own.

Our Senior Living Consultant, Brandyn, traded tours for tunes, picking up his guitar and leading residents and team members in an afternoon of singalongs, smiles, and shared memories. It's moments like these that remind us what makes Abiitan so special. Our team doesn't just work here—they build relationships, share their passions, and help create a community where everyone feels known, valued, and connected.

At Abiitan, we're more than neighbors—we're a community that celebrates life's everyday moments together.

Today, residents went on a carefree ride through Minneapolis aboard a Trishaw, graciously piloted by volunteers from the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board.

Together, they cruised along the Mississippi River, crossed the iconic Stone Arch Bridge, and took in breathtaking views of the Minneapolis skyline. It wasn't just a bike ride—it was an opportunity to reconnect with the city, share stories, spark memories, and simply enjoy the freedom of being outdoors.

One of our favorite traditions at Abiitan Mill City is our Resident Art Wall, where we proudly showcase the incredible talents and passions of the people who call our community home.

Over the years, our gallery has featured everything from beautiful paintings and handcrafted pottery to intricate hooked rugs. Our newest exhibit shines a spotlight on the remarkable photography of resident Sonny, whose lens captures the energy, movement, and everyday beauty of life throughout the Twin Cities. His unique perspective invites us to slow down, notice the details, and see our community in a new light.

At Abiitan, we believe moving into senior living isn't about leaving your passions behind—it's about having new opportunities to share them. Celebrating the creativity, experiences, and lifelong talents of our residents is just one of the many ways we foster a vibrant, engaging community where every story matters.

A day full of gratitude, great food, and lifelong learning! ❤️

We kicked off the day with our annual Team Member BBQ, with our directors serving up lunch from the grill as a small thank you to our incredible team.

Then we had the privilege of hearing from one of our residents, who generously gave back to the people who care for him by sharing lessons from more than 75 years of financial experience (he got his start at just 7 years old!). As an extra gift, he shared a copy of his book with each team member and even took the time to personally autograph them, a keepsake our team will treasure.

At Abiitan, we believe everyone has something valuable to teach, and today was a wonderful reminder that learning doesn't have an age limit. Thank you to our incredible team for the compassion and care you provide every day and thank you to our resident for sharing your wisdom, generosity, and passion for giving back. Moments like these are what make our community so special.
