June 22 is the 27th anniversary of the Olmstead Decision. This important Supreme Court decision says people with disabilities have the right to get services in their own homes and communities when that is the right fit for them.

For the people we serve, this shows up in simple, everyday ways. It means being able to stay at home. It means getting support from caregivers you know and trust. It means being part of your family, your neighbors, and your community.

Home and community-based services (HCBS) help make this possible. Every day, caregivers, support staff, families, and advocates help people live more independently and make their own choices.

Olmstead is really about one thing: people should be able to live where they feel at home, with the support they need.

We are proud to be part of the work of helping people live with dignity, choice, and connection in their own communities.

Yesterday, our team was honored to attend the Minnesota Elder Justice Center World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) conference and connect with so many passionate professionals dedicated to protecting and supporting older adults.

Advocacy has always been at the heart of what we do. We believe every person deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and cultural understanding, and we are proud to stand alongside others who are working to prevent abuse, reduce isolation, and ensure people have access to the support they need, especially for those whose lived experiences impact their day-to-day well-being.

“For the people we serve, historical trauma is something that our elders live with and that is passed down for generations,” said Kayla, our Outreach Manager. “I was so appreciative of the representatives from the White Earth, Mill Lac Band, Red Lake, and Lower Sioux reservation who shared their knowledge and wisdom for the communities they serve. As a home care provider, we are committed to making elders feel comfortable in their own home and making sure it is a safe environment.”

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit, share ideas, and learn more about the communities we serve. Events like WEAAD remind us that advocacy is stronger when we work together.

Did you know…

Asian Americans are up to 60% more likely to experience a stroke before age 65, and American Indian and Alaska Native adults are 7% more likely to have had a stroke compared to the overall U.S. population. These differences are real, and culture plays a big role in how symptoms are understood and when people seek care.

That’s why we partnered with the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance/Minnesota Stroke Association to create a culturally grounded stroke‑prevention guide made for the communities we serve. It explains how beliefs like “wind illness” can overlap with early stroke symptoms, why acting fast matters, and what habits protect your brain long‑term.

Use the guide found in the comments to learn the B.E. F.A.S.T. warning signs, pick a couple of healthy habits to start now, and bring the included questions to your next doctor visit. It also lists community programs, elder services, and support resources you can share with loved ones.

Download it, read it with someone you care about, and pass it along. Prevention grows stronger when we share it.

We loved being part of the Steps for Autism event by The Autism Society of Minnesota and connecting directly with individuals and families in our community.

The event gave families the chance to explore resources at their own pace and have meaningful conversations with individuals about the challenges they’re facing. One theme we heard repeatedly was how difficult it can be to access reliable respite support and truly take a break. And it's where we can help.

These conversations matter. They help us better understand how we can support families through trusted caregiving, knowledgeable staff that can support complex systems, and services designed to ease caregiver burnout and meet families where they’re at. 💙

We were honored to be part of American Indian OIC’s Annual Founders’ Day Resource Fair last week in Minneapolis.

We loved connecting with community members, current clients, former caregivers, job seekers, and AIOIC program graduates — all while sharing resources, opportunities, and support.

“Being part of a celebration honoring elders and the Indigenous community in Minneapolis was truly moving," said Kayla, our Outreach Manager. "From the drum circle to the personal stories shared, every moment reminded us of why we do this work and inspired us to push harder for advocacy and change in Minnesota.”

Thank you to AIOIC for bringing together such an inspiring event focused on empowerment, opportunity, and community. We’re already looking forward to next year. 💛

It's Nurses Week! We want to recognize and thank the nearly 30 incredible nurses who care for our clients and communities every day. 💙

Nursing in home and community-based care takes a unique blend of clinical expertise, compassion, and adaptability. Our nurses meet people where they are, often during some of life’s most vulnerable moments, and provide care with empathy, dignity, and professionalism.

The work they do goes far beyond visits and assessments. They help individuals maintain independence, comfort, connection, and quality of life in their own homes and communities. The impact is truly life-changing.

Healthcare is constantly evolving, and our nurses continue to rise to every challenge with dedication and heart. We are deeply grateful for the care, advocacy, and support they provide to clients, families, caregivers, and one another.

Thank you for all that you do - this week and every week.

Happy Nurses Week! 👩‍⚕️💙

CFSS and 245D: What’s the Difference?

If you’re exploring home and community-based services, you’ve probably come across CFSS and 245D, but what exactly are they, and what actually sets them apart?

One offers more flexibility and control over your care, while the other provides structured, licensed support. Both are designed to help individuals live independently, but the right choice depends on your unique needs.

Yesterday, our team had an amazing opportunity to visit and be a part of the Disability Advocacy Day at the capital!

We stood proudly alongside our community partners Accra Homecare and Hmong Home Health Care. Together, we stood in support of policies that promote independence and ensure continued access to essential care in our communities.

It was inspiring to be a part of an event that brought people together from different walks of life to not only celebrate but also advocate for Disability rights and human rights. “Chants of ‘We Matter,’ ‘No More Cuts,’ and ‘Disability Rights Are Human Rights’ echoed throughout the Capitol, setting the tone for the day,” said Vicki, our Advocacy and Policy Leader.

Thank you to everyone who came not only to support today but to voice our belief in protecting access to care and ensuring people with disabilities can continue living safely in their communities.

We were honored to have our Fort Yates Branch attend a recent Community Resource Fair in Cannonball, ND, hosted by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Health Representatives alongside many dedicated local programs.

Events like this are a valuable opportunity to connect with the communities we serve, strengthen partnerships, and support the well-being of elders and individuals with disabilities.

As Stephanie Reed, Operations Manager, shared:
“By building relationships with other organizations, we can better ensure that those in need are connected to the care and resources that help them remain safe and supported at home. We are proud to be part of a network that uplifts and honors those we serve.”

We’re grateful to be part of such a strong, community-focused network.
