Many patients see me in clinic for eczema solutions, and their experience is more than simply “dry skin.” Eczema often shows up as red, rough, or scaly patches that are persistently itchy. Often the patches will crack or bleed, and can make it hard for kids to sleep, focus, and enjoy their day. In spring and summer, flare-ups are especially common as kiddos are exposed to pollen, grasses, heat, sweat, time in pools or lakes, sunscreen, bug spray and other possible irritants that can negatively impact sensitive skin. Rinsing off sweat or chlorine, moisturizing with a gentle, fragrance‑free cream, choosing breathable layers, and changing out of damp clothes quickly can all make a meaningful difference.
