Gun violence can be a difficult topic to discuss, but we can all agree that our children and teens deserve to be safe.

This powerful PSA from the Agree-to-Agree campaign reminds us that meaningful conversations can help bridge differences and focus on what matters most: preventing firearm injuries and saving lives. Whether you are a gun owner or not, we all have a role to play in protecting youth.

Very important information. Keep yourself and your family safe and legal!

Whether you’re a cyclist, pedestrian or driver, you share Minnesota roads and multi-use paths with all kinds of travelers. These shared spaces are meant to be a safe place for everyone, but an illegal e-moto puts regular commuters and families at risk.

Under Minnesota law, an electric device is not considered a legal e-bike if it doesn’t have working pedals, has a motor larger than 750 watts, or goes faster than 28 mph while pedaling or 20 mph when using just the throttle. Vehicles exceeding these limits are illegal on paths and require a driver’s license to operate on public roads.

Additionally, legal e-bikes have age restrictions. You must be 15 years of age or older to operate an e-bike in Minnesota. Know the rules and keep everyone safe.

Proud to announce our abstract has been accepted! We are excited to share Hennepin Healthcare’s work in gun violence prevention at this year’s Injury Free Coalition for Kids Conference. I look forward to highlighting how our organizational approach, multidisciplinary collaboration, and strong community partnerships allow us to advance prevention efforts and respond quickly to community needs, including in the aftermath of mass casualty incidents.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn from colleagues across the country, share best practices, and contribute to the ongoing conversation around firearm injury prevention and the larger topic of injury prevention.

With summer in full swing, injury risks tend to increase as we spend more time outdoors and stay active.

We recently had the opportunity to partner with our new neighbors at the Minnesota Immigration Center, where we shared important safety tips to help individuals and families stay safe while enjoying all the fun that summer has to offer.

Thank you to everyone who participated, we’re grateful to support a safer, healthier community!

Every 30 minutes, someone in the United States is being treated for a gun shot wound at a hospital. We are proud of our providers for taking steps to elevate the conversation of gun violence prevention.

What's the big deal? E-bikes and e-scooters can reach speeds that make crashes much more serious, especially for younger riders. Know Minnesota's age requirements, follow local laws, and ride safely to stay .

HCMC is also witnessing a significant surge in severe injuries and fear due to this trend, if this continues, we will soon see fatalities. Children’s bodies are not equipped to withstand the speed of these bikes during crashes, and they cognitively(due to their development) lack the ability to make safe driving decisions at such high speeds, putting themselves and others on the road at risk. Because of this, children are being hit by other drivers on the road and people, not just loosing control and crashing themselves.

Additionally, per Minnesota law, children must be at least 15 years old to ride e-bikes and 12 years old to ride e-scooters. However, we see this law not being followed and many of these devices we are observing are actually e-motos that exceed the top speed of 28 mph, which is the maximum speed for a class 3 e-bike.

We are asking the public to have these hard conversations with friends and family to help prevent injuries and save lives. At minimum, always wear a helmet crash tested for the top speed of your device.
